Hi

A lovely Rotel RP 3000 has come my way but the Jelco SA 50 Tonearm is missing the bias , Anti skate weight can anyone help in suggesting a replacement?

Nice decks those. Various bias weights crop up on ebay, you may get lucky.

It'll probably work fine without, but you could try a bit of solder on some fine nylon or cotton just for now.

Only trouble is that you need to know the mass of the original weight in order to buy a replacement.

Yep and its not that easy it seems bizarre have looked for 2 gram mass weights will keep looking :lol: still could swap it out for and SME 3009 :)

I hate those ones where the loop hasn’t been tied for you. I bought one for the arm on my Yamaha GT-2000 over a year ago and it’s still not in use as I’ve no idea how to tie the loop/knot!

if you struggle too much with fishing line you can use tuner dial cord 0.5mm

A tiny dab of superglue can help with the knot :) Sometimes I've just looped the fishing the line without tying a knot at all and then applied a drop of superglue at the crossing point. You can easily put together a temporary bias weight from small washers, or even nuts and/or bolts. Then keep on adding blue tack and/or washers until you get a heavy enough weight. What you will need depends on the range of adjustment on the arm and where exactly the bias is applied relative to pivot. Around 1g weight would seem like a good place to start. Quite likely the original was heavier.
