As the OP, I expected some blokish comments and understand others have different experiences, and sense of humour. I have taken all as coming from a desire to be supportive.

I have found the responses to the "revisited" post sympathetic and encouraging. The same when my marriage failed and I posted here. On a "blokometer" they've been a damn sight less misogynistic here than some I received on a (respectable) motorcycle forum.

Yeah ours had sideways sliding doors that met in the middle. Probably quite a small telly by today's standards, but when you're only seven or eight everything looked big, even Walnut Whips.

Our first TV had a screen about the size of a slice of toast, I remember watching the Queen's coronation on it (yes, I am that old :)). All the neighbours popped in to watch as it was the only telly in the street.

Funny thing about screen size is you get used to it so fast. If I go to my mother's there's a 42'' screen and it looks so small to me for the first hour or so then after that it doesn't register.

Then I go home to 55'' and it looks huge for the first hour, and then again it doesn't register after that.

keep thinking about getting a 65 or a 70 but starting to think it's a waste of money as I'll only get the benefit for an hour or so.

Used to have a 32" in the man cave, and a 43" in the lounge. I have just bought a 50" for the lounge, so have moved the 43" into the man cave.
Most people wondered why our TV was "so small" until they went into the cinema room with the 100" screen.

But I agree with Macca. You soon get used to the size of the screen. It is the same thing with UHD, HD and SHD. The novelty wears off once you start watching the film rather than looking at the picture quality.

you can get a 75'' Samsung 8K for £1750 on Amazon. Don't know about the larger ones but 75 is pretty big.

Don't see the point. Bugger all to watch in 8K anyway. Let the rich folk buy them all up until the technology becomes more affordable, and there is any 8K content worth watching. I don't think I ever see anything 4K on my telly, but maybe it upscales HD a bit, and that's plenty good enough for me.

I was fine with 'normal' telly resolution tbh, just pointing out 8K are a lot cheaper than they used to be.

That is quite cheap, certainly less than I thought they would be. But my secondhand as-new LG OLED 55" is all the telly I need. Reduced from £1900 to £600, which is nice.

But looks aren't everything when you get in from work to find your home full of them, angrily debating plastic in the ocean, your kitchen trashed and your fridge empty :( And don't get me started on the state of the bathroom.

they are.. my mum had one and it near killed me getting it out of house(was an older one mind but also lifted you to standing)... as for their friends...your spot on; not only are students weird, but their friends are always weirder

my brother was a student and so were all his pals and females. not a looker among them either. all talked a load of socialist twaddle that they didnt mean as they were all training to be rich...

I rented a big place off a mate and let out a couple of the rooms to a couple of students I knew. I thought that most of the time they'd be at college and the rest out with their mated but I think because it was a big place with a hi-fi it turned into party central

Quite often I'd come home from a 12 hour shift to find about a dozen of them in the living room listening to young people music (usually Ozrics or The Orb), as was the style at the time.

Sometimes I had to step over a couple of unconscious ones in the hallway as I came in.

I didn't really have an issue with it and I was also able to sell them quite a lot of my cast-off equipment. My girlfriend at the time was less than happy about it though.
