please delete - I cannot seem to get any images to successfully appear - tried to copy across from my listing on the Wam ( https://www.hifiwigwam.com/threads/jvc-tt-71-in-cuban-mahogany-plinth.119781/ ) but no luck :(

That's one beautiful deck, the wood alone would be a small fortune to buy.

Thanks for your kind words - I'm not sure how many people are going to appreciate just how special the timber is - perhaps the discerning people on AoS? :). Hopefully will get the pictures and listing properly sorted here - I can't quite understand why it should be so tricky - MH

Blimey - I have signed up for the site you suggested, followed all the instructions for inserting the images in this post, and absolutely nothing has happened even though the lines of code are clearly visible when I click "edit post" - thank you for your patience, but I think I may have reached the limits of mine - My posting privileges on PFM seem to have expired somehow as well, perhaps God is telling me I should own two turntables?

I'm not sure what you did on ImgBB, but I just spent a few minutes posting these using it and had no bother.

Gosh - that was all a bit embarrassing - thank you so much for your help, you can probably tell that IT is not my area of expertise....

finally:

Offered for sale, JVC TT-71 motor unit, mounted in a plinth made from Cuban mahogany and bamboo with a phenolic core - the mahogany was taken from a fire damaged dining table made in about 1780 - this is the finest grade of mahogany that has ever been available (I can refer you to Chippendale, Hepplewhite et al on this point...) - I was mindful not to waste too much wood when thicknessing the blank, so there are a couple of marks remaining on the upper surface - in particular a black line to the rear LHS - given that this discouraged a previously interested buyer, I have made up an optional brass cover plate for the back corner (I could mill this out to accept a bullseye level or something?) - there is also a small rectangular brass plate fitted to cover the previous (rather unconventional ) cable routing. I have made up a new armboard in solid lemonwood (very similar to boxwood with dense, tight grain), I can drill this and fit the Rega arm pictured (unmodded, NAD badged), leave it blank, or drill it to your requirements. Comes fitted with Isonoe feet, and a Herbie's mat that I have been using to excellent effect with this deck (this cost me $130) or I can supply without a mat for a small reduction in price. Please study the photos carefully - I have a lot more pictures that I can email to potential buyers. I will add more details, but this will do for now.... Price is £525 with the Rega arm fitted, £425 without - other options by negotiation. Collection from near Shrewsbury would certainly be best, but happy to explore other options for delivery - I do travel to N.Yorkshire quite regularly, also Oxfordshire

dimensions: 480mm wide X 390 deep
weight without arm is just shy of 15kg

the lid is the original JVC item - condition is decent i.e. it has no cracks, but it does have the sort of surface scuffs/scratches that one would expect given that this is a survivor from the 70's

the previous owner fitted a Supra shielded mains lead - the soldering of this is not very pretty, but not visible, and is certainly "thorough" and has been tested 100% sound

there are some details of the motor unit to be found here: http://www.thevintageknob.org/jvc-TT-81.html - I gathered from Vinyl Engine that JVC/Victor were also responsible for the manufacture of the Denon DD drive units as well, but I have not been able to verify this - it is certainly very well made, perfectly quiet and runs 100% true (more than I can say for some rather better known Technics units....)

I have looked through sold items etc online, and I feel that my asking price is very fair, but I am open to close offers - this is a really nice object, sounds very good indeed, and is a far safer long term proposition than its more complex brethren (as I know to my cost having briefly owned the TT-101, which is a drop in fit to this plinth)

RB250 now fitted - I will supply a brass spacer to achieve identical VTA to a stock Rega deck - happy to supply others to suit a particular cartridge if you let me have the spec - this is the final bump before listing on eBay, but should anyone find their way here from my eBay listing, I am happy to deal directly and honour the price listed here - just contact me through the forum - MH
