I’m a proud owner of a modified (baring, arm, feet) Technics SL1210 which I use with a dedicated Funk Acromat.
A friend brought round an Origin Live Mat which seemed to make an improvement but I’m hesitant to buy one as the Mat is totally flat and does not take into account the lip on the platter or the record label. Would it be practical to place the Origin Live Mat on top of the Acromat or would that be a complete waste of time and money?

All I can say is I have experimented with just this - to my ears the Origin Live mat on top of an Achromat/Funk 1 platter led to reduced dynamics on my modded SL1210. The Oyaide BR12 works very well on the standard Technics platter but I have found that (if you can get one) the Oyaide MJ12 (photos) is utterly superb. Dynamics and clarity are phenomenal with much sharper attack. In fact to my ears the MJ12/standard platter sounds better than the Funk 1/Achromat combo.
However, the Origin Live mat works wonders on my Thorens TD 150 - much better than the standard or cork mats I have tried.

I’ve come to the conclusion the the OL Mat is not really suitable for the Technics, so I’m going to leave well alone.
