Dilemma. Tonearm rewire or upgrade?

My tonearm needs a rewire.
There’s a break in one of the cables somewhere.
It’s a Rega RB250 fitted to a Pink Triangle LPT.

For the price of a rewire I could gamble on another arm 2nd hand from eBay.
Anyone have any advice or strong opinions?
I do sort of like the idea of repair rather than replace but you know…. New shiney stuff!

Return to Rega for a proper rewire which is most likely less expensive than a rewire from another company/person and done properly, which requires a rebuild.

You might buy an arm from e-Bay and have other problems. At least this way you can be assured it is 100%.

I think that is what I would do, you never know it maybe a slight upgrade too?

Yes, they have upgraded the wiring over the years.

When Rega do a rewire, they dismantle the arm to make sure the internal wiring is laying correctly and then they rebuild using the appropriate jig. You can't do that by pulling the wire through as third parties do.

Strong Opinion from a current Rega turntable user.

Get your arm repaired and fettled.
AudioOrigami rewire.

Will be an upgrade over stock Rega wiring.
From memory he uses Van Damme mic cable and Neutrik connectors, may have changed mines was many years ago.

I know Jon(J7) outside of forumland, and he's forgotten more about tonearms than most engineers know.
Back in the day when i ran a Gyrodec, I got him to rewire my Michell Technoarm (an upgraded Rega arm) and it got scarily close to my SME V that replaced it.

SME was better, yup, but "diminishing returns" better.
The Rega arm is worth saving.

Yep, he rewired my 774 with Ikemi silver wire. Not the cheapest but was well worth doing.
