KEF Reference 105

Not going to go into a lot of detail for the moment, but I am probably going to finally move my beloved 105s on after many years together.

Many other speakers have come and gone but the 105s have always stayed the course- a testament to their amazing music-making powers.
Downsized home and the arrival of the more suitably-sized "shrunk in the wash" 105.4 are the only reason that I am considering it.

The gravitas and beautiful reproduction of music with these is truly special, and I have never understood why they aren't revered alongside the Tannoys and IMFs of this world.

Although they like big wattage/current, they always produce a beautiful sound even with few watts- big amounts just reveal how devastating they can be!
Also sound surprisingly good at low volumes- some of my most memorable liatening sessions with these have been at midnight, with the volume low.


The mid/tweeter section has been recapped with a Falcon kit.
Original bass-head jumpers replaced with a nice set of aftermarket connectors. I felt the bass improved after this.

Leds and circuit removed, I still have these somewhere.
Can supply with a spare set of T52 tweeters at cost.



I'm looking for £700.

I am near Glasgow which I know will rule out 99.9% of the hifi faithful.

A fellow forum member has a pair of these, which I've heard a few times. Just fantastic at any volume. They provided most of the music at last weekend's NEBO, and they easily filled what was a very large room. GLWS

I had a pair of these powered with two Quad 405/2 amps, loved the sound quality.
Only sold them because they didn't leave much space in my room for anything else.:)

In Southend thankfully, if they were close I might be tempted. They are very good speakers, would easily cost ten grand today.
