Tonearm surface treatment/refinishing

I have sourced a Kenwood KD-7010. A turntable I’ve wanted to try for a long time. What was the original finish? If it is anodised then there is little you can do, but if you can safely remove the arm from the turntable, I suggest you send it to Johnny at Audio Origami.

I did consider sending it to Johnny. I wondered if there was anything I could try first.

It doesn’t look anodised but may be wrong. I would expect that if it was anodised, this deterioration wouldn’t have occurred…?

I'd be more worried about damage to the bearings and wiring with corrosion like that.

yes it looks pretty rotten with decay etc. who knows what the bearing wll be like. restoring will be possible although you will lose the printing

I think it’s just surface oxidisation. It feels very smooth to the touch. The bearings feel fine. Up down and auto up functions appear to work as intended. I haven’t mounted a cartridge to it yet to prove the wires are ok but the guy I bought it from assured me it worked fine.
