Beautiful looking amplifiers. I assume the middle item is the pre-amplifier ?

I would question their text  "superseded by smaller and cheaper alternatives" such as ? They probably mean solid state etc.....but in regard to time lines they are out by quite a few years. Now if it were Leak amplification.....

Someone should correct them....in regards to time line errors, seek clarification on what exactly they mean (could be within that companies range ?) and then tell them that valves have not been superseded by anything.

Last time I was in the V&A I did not see this display, I must have missed it. I did however see some very nice oil lamps including a Benson one, with a very unusual shade reflector made up of segments like a Chinese fan.

Here is a link to more Scientific Fidelity products http://www.stereophile.com/floorloudspeakers/492scifi/ They ceased trading in 2006

Is that poor Les Paul Deluxe one that Pete Townshend fell out with ?
He went through a spell of using them - used to drag half or dozen or so around when The Who were touring.

Any guesses to the suit owner?
My first thought was Michael Jackson (probably wrong), my second thought was Elvis Presley & i'm probably still wrong

E2A:- Last daft guess:- Roger Daltrey

Well, is the banjo a clue?
It must be George Formby from his glam period

Surely they could do better than those amps? I am afraid for iconic design, they dont cut the mustard.

If you're looking for iconic design, none of the above pieces of hi-fi is anything like iconic, not in my understanding of the word, anyway.
The Les Paul would surely be the only true icon on this page?

I thought all of his stage Les Pauls had big numbers on them, but apparently not.

You are correct. I probably chose my words wrong. :)
I think "cutting edge" may have been better.

I think "cutting edge" may have been better.
Definately, well on the legs of the turntable at any rate  Wtf is that all about anyway, they honestly don't look like they add anything to the design except for lots of £££££ :eyebrows:

I think you're right - I was going to guess Neil Diamond but I'm with you now Anthony

I think the suit is a pianist's clobber because of the long cuffs.
Elton John?

I'm intigued by the Masonic imagery on the shoulders and neck cuff, etc. Also the Hebrew letter on the small of the back. Any semioticists or symboligists out there?
