I think the Sony DAPs are very well though of and I think they have bought out some new models recently. I would forget the Astel and Kern as the are astronomical.

Here are some recommendations from a very good site that is headphone centric but very good.

At the risk of being an old fart, can I stream and download to a DAP?
I use Spotify and download onto my phone, but then have to put it through a borrowed DAC to get any sensible quality out of it. Apologies for being a dunce.

the fiio ka5 is a dac that connects to phone via a usb c.. it is pretty good at a reasonable price.

or you can go all the way with a dap. ive got a fiio m11 plus which is android based so you can download any app you use on phone.

Never mind, you won't hear all the farts with your noise cancelling 'phones :)

Thanks Grant, I get it now. I want to stop using the phone so DAP is the obvious route then...

Not sure if even the best cancel the smells though... or the explosive risk of lighting a cheroot!

Thanks Grant, I get it now. I want to stop using the phone so DAP is the obvious route then...My dap has an SD slot and can go up to 2 tb I think but currently has a 500gb in it. Copy over music to it on pc.
Only difference in use to a phone is it's WiFi and doesn't use a data chip. If you need a internet connection when out and no WiFi is around, you can make a hot spot with phones data, if your phone allows it.
I also changed cables on cans to 4.4mm balanced. Superior sound.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230513/afa42c09391f6f3545bf0d8f7b1d2465.jpg

I had to check what DAP refers to. Are they really such good news? Maybe depends how you want to listen to music and where. I mostly listen at home, occasionally - but now rarely - in a car, and either with decent speakers, amp, CD player etc., or via various computers.

Perhaps DAPs are more use to people who are highly mobile.

I recently purchased a Hidzis AP80 Pro. Although I dont think its in the same league as the top end Fiio playes, I was amazed at its sound. For just over £120, I think its well worth considering. Construction is superb as its milled from a solid block of aluminium.
