Finally after 10 weeks my new amp arrived an Audio Note Conqueror Silver, couldn't wait to pop the Emission Labs in.
Its a low gain version, initial impressions with my horns :gig:

Thanks,it's been a long ride trying to get an amp matched to my horns. They're very efficient with a Lowther PM2A with a 15" bass driver and not everyones cup of tea :)
The Audio Projekte amp got pretty close, but this AN seems to have hit the spot,James Taylor - Hourglass female backing vocals are now more defined and Norah has that smokiness that I first heard with Keiths Cessaros.

Confirmed with PQ the amp can take a 5U4G so have an Emission Lab coming.
The amp came with a 6SN7WGTA,what a can of worms that valve is so many choices any recommendations ?
Have ordered a Shuguang Black Treasure to try.
Cheers

Congrats, Rob - I'm lovin' it... Gorgeous amp! Must pop down sometime for a listen to your system, as your set-up intrigues me greatly :)

Btw, that 6SN7WGTA can easily be bettered with some quality NOS tubes, like a Brimar CV1988, or even better, Osram B65:

I use/have used both, and they are to my ears unquestionably the best 6SN7 types ever made.

The Shuguang Black Treasure 'coke bottles' are also excellent, but NOS is where it's really at if you want the best!

Will have my Paul Hynes pre back pretty soon, with LDR volume and power mods, also my SP10 will be up and running with a Garrard 401 for comparison.
Cheers

Hi,Tried my amp today with syvania brown base,Mullard ecc 32 and osram b65 courtesy of Marco. The Mullard and Osram were clearly bestbut they are far more expensive. Its said the military spec Russian version of 6sn7 are very good also.

Well it's sounding ,gonna need a bit of burning in.

RobsterD

Well the CV181 is still sounding a little rough,300 hours for burn in is recommended  is that 300hrs of musical playback or 300hrs of the valve being switched on,is there a difference ?
Cheers

Rob

You will need to do at least 200 hours to burn in your new AN amps.

I have quite a few Sylvania & RCA 6U4Gs which I got stateside for my AN amps, if you want a pair.

Interested in how your EML 300B perform.

Did you hear the new AN 2A3 amps at Whittlebury show last weekend, 4wpc just right for your horns.

Regards

I've owned a couple of pieces of Audio Note kit and they were both so smooth and musical sounding.
I'm not sure why I got rid of them really.
Hope you enjoy your amp Robster.... I'm sure it's getting better by the second.

Hi Roger, never made it to Whittlebury sounds interesting, though I must now stop looking at amps for my own sanity.

Had a nice delivery today the Emmision Lab 5U4G it's a bit of a beast.

Thanks, the 5U4G seems to have made more of a difference than the 6SN7 change, early days :)

I think you're in danger of spending more on the valves than you have on the amp!

must chat up Marco ;) to try them, the Shuguang has been a little underwhelming:( seems to rob the music of a bit of drive.
Prices for the Mullard ECC32 is £250 on eBay:eek:
