Would like one of these for very occasional use on second system. Mainly to check out turntables functions. Not looking for an expensive unit, mm or both mm./mc.
Cambridge etc.come to mind but open to others.

Ifi Zen phono seems to get good reviews.

Emotiva XPS-1 is excellent too, I've had one and rate it highly. Hard to find used mind you but even at new price it's still a recommendation.

Ifi Zen phono user here and it's excellent. Don't bother with the cheaper Zen Air phono, it's not as good. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234867167178?epid=18043429701&hash=item36af2c8fca:g:rY8AAOSwyetjy

These perform very well, I think around £120 when new, worth a punt on one of these. I had one about 8 years ago and it sounded pretty good. Stick a linear PSU on it and it should be even better.

I think the Cambridge would be ok. It’s more to test the turntable and cart. are working as they should.
I must be one of the few who dumped eBay years back so hence using this route to source a unit. Plus I trust AoS members.

I use a Cambridge Audio 540P, the MM only one, it works very well and takes up little room. The sound quality is good and it's very quiet, no hum, unlike a few. I've had plenty of more costly ones, but this is fine. You can pick them up for around £40, just make sure it has the right power supply with it.

Thanks for the heads up. Ref: power supply. Any way to identify the correct unit.

I have a Cambridge 640P MM/MC in silver available if you're still looking. Couple of bad scratches on the top of unit but in excellent working order - it's also a pretty good for the price.

Hi Sparki. What price on the Arkless stage? Is it a converted Cambridge 640 ? MM, MC or both?

Thanks for all the replies. Just to add, my need is for an inexpensive stage only the prove the turntables work. I have a good stage but don’t want to unplug and move it each time. Hence only looking for a basic unit.

I was going to offer you my plastic fantastic back-up, but it looks like you might as well buy new:

https://electromarket.co.uk/power-dynamics-pdx010-photo-preamplifier

But if you can’t track one down (I see it is out of stock on Amazon) and you are interested you can put £12.50 into my preamp upgrade kitty (this includes p&p).
