Now I know that some of you will be cursing me FOR WHAT I HAVE DONE!
But really the case on this beauty deserved better , the corners were dented and a big chunk on one corner, plus it wasn’t the nicest I’ve seen .
So I’m off sick today with a painful lower back pain that’s progressively gotten worse since last Wednesday,it only hurts when sitting down ( so I need to stay stood up ) so I thought I need to keep busy and came up with the idea of sorting out the Yammie ( it’s really been bugging me )
I started at about 09:30 , doctors at 11 and case 95% finished by 11:40, and here it is ….
Just a few more coats of Danish oil.
The purpose of this post is to hopefully show how simple a job it is , and it’s very rewarding.

The result looks good but I'm not really sure what you did?

Filled in the chips and added new veneer over the top of the old?

Yes , to demonstrate how easy it is

It did and well worth restoring classics like this, they aren't making any more of them. Nowadays it's all plastic-fantastic or over-styled bling.

I agree it looks fantastic, but we only have your word for it that it was a simple task. This one I did last year, with matching amplifier:

I think it needs more sanding.

Still turned out better than the pencil case I made at school. Andy, what wood is the veneer on your tuner? It suits the facia perfectly.

It’s American black walnut mate . I’m lucky to live near a great veneer company called the Veneer hub , going in their warehouse is a real treat .

Bloody hell! I've veneered over the cables :(

I don't think you should be telling everyone how simple a task it was - you could make some money doing that for other folk :)

Opinions please, should i do the same to the amp which is in pristine condition and the veneer never did match.

Well I do think that the black walnut looks nicer and more modern but my concern would be am I unnecessarily devaluing it ? The tuner cabinet was slightly damaged and the veneer wasn’t very nice .

Chances are if you did sell, you'd be flogging both. And I think they would be more desirable if they matched.

a matched pair will look better.

andyrlb
16-01-2023, 19:21
Not sure if they’re even meant to be a match given that the veneers are totally different and they’re not the same size ( width)

That would change things perhaps. If your keeping them maybe do it.

Excellent work there Andrew, But if I had the choice, I would have stained the veneer to be a darker colour; maybe rosewood.

We all have different tastes. Some may prefer them to be a darker colour, some not. Hard to predict which colour would prove more desirable, so I would suggest Andy has them the colour he likes, and trusts that his tastes match that of potential buyer. Personally I think his choice of veneer looks great.

I love it as it is nice veneer that still got a nice pattern to it and goes with more than a dark one would.

I'd leave the other as original if it's clean.
