Recommended Budget PC Speakers

Can anyone point me in the right direction for some nice PC speakers (active) that can produce a nice sound.

Budget around £50.00 and quite happy with secondhand kit.

Definitely Gigaworks T20s.....

I bought a pair out of necessity and budget and was really quite surprised at how good they sounded.

I am currently using a set of Behringer MS16's (http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/MS16.aspx)

Possibly not the finest in fidelity, but far better than most "computer speakers" which purport to 500W of power!! I have had these for almost 4 years and am very happy with them.

I bought some Q1010i speakers from Richer Sounds a while back - £40 approx for 2. They're surprisingly good, though won't do deep bass or loud. You might need a decent amp to drive them though-hooking them direct to your PC might not work, or if it does might not give good results. They're very well made seemingly.

The q2020is are a level up but cost more.

Sorry, just noted that you want active speakers. You could try coupling speakers as I suggested via a cheap T amp.

I was in the exact same position as you recently, with the same budget, and eventually decided to spend twice as much on the Studiophile Av40 Desktop Speakers by M-Audio. I managed to get them for £92 inc. P&P, and have been _very_ happy with them. They've been extremely well reviewed for a long time, so I thought, why not.

If you definitely can't stretch, then see what you think of their lower-end models, which I recall were also well reviewed, just not so glowingly as the AV40s. These are the AV30s and AV20s.

Keep a look out on Ebay for an Acoustic Energy Aego system. There's about 3 different incarnations of these, but all very good. They retail for £139 currently but they come up on Ebay for around £40-£50 quite regularly, sometimes AE themselves seem to have a surplus and sell them off cheaply. I got one of their mid range centre speakers this way and it was a real bargain.

The Aego is a 2.1 active system with quite a hefty sub and a pair of tiny but rather solid metal satellites. The quality and amount of sound these things are capable of pumping out is quite amazing.

Got to agree with Rich about the Aego speakers; quite extraordinary. Bought my Aego 2s new for £100 a few years back, so you should be able to pick up a second hand pair for much less. They are based on the Koi Tigers (some info on the net) and properly spaced can sound almost as good as serious Hi-Fi speakers.

I've got Gigaworks T40 for a kitchen system. Really quite good for this type of use. New they seem to range from £78 to £150. 2nd hand they should be more like £30 or £40.

More hifi speakers than computer speakers soundwise.
