Lovely stuff.

Tis nice Martin but at the risk of being ridiculed ( as usual) I think my K3 sounds better. [emoji20]

might need some work or do you know its provenance?

I’m currently looking inside it now ( it was sold with an advisory of a service)
It appears to have been recapped , and it looks like the thermal paste on the transistors/fets ? Looks newish but I can see 2 resistors that appear to be failing or have failed but I can’t see the colour code

Probably one of the best looking (and sounding) tuners ever made. :)

(And, along with tape recorders, the only time meters are of any real use.)

We had one of these doing radio service in my practice for years, and I mean YEARS! Never, ever failed to boot up and always used 6 days a week 9-10 hours daily, bomb proof.

And I’m getting stereo fm with a 1 metre length of bell wire ( for now )

Lovely looking kit.

The resistors look a little overloaded rather than burnt-out. They could still be the correct value, a better photo would be useful.

Yep that's pretty much what we did.

Now a month or so has passed since I completed a full recap of the CA-2010 , sounded good but not great until last week when I cleaned all the switches , after that it now sounds very very good , I think the source selector switch was was the main culprit .
Ran it all day yesterday in class a and doing the same now .
Happy days .

Milton Keynes seems to be where all the best looking hifi ends up. Beautiful amp, I want one!

Yamaha is one of the few companies who, to their credit, have kept 'proper' styling of their equipment. Although I'm not sure the modern stuff is quite as pretty at least it still looks like an amplifier and not a minimalist, featureless, blinged-up shoe-box:

Yeah, that's pretty good looking, but Andy's still has it in the handsomeness dept. I reckon the wood casing helps. And I think the meters look better in separate windows too. How sad is that? And remotes? Really not bothered, the exercise is good for me.

No you're right on all counts I think.

it's still better than this monstrosity, which is sadly typical now:

Remember when Marantz was arguably some of the best looking kit on the market? But now this:

It’s quite attractive when naked too…
Vu’s without the diffuser, I prefer it with .

The good thing about quality Japanese equipment is the "feel" of the controls: silky smooth pots and a decisive feel for the switches.

Some American amplifiers have the same quality feel to their controls, but the Japanese did it first.

What I like about Yamaha kit of this period (and to some extent those of Akai and Nikko), is the "hewn from solid" look. Added to that the labelling is clear, and uses an unfussy font. (One thing I really dislike is the use of italic styles of font on audio gear.) The wooden case gives Yamaha gear a handsome look (the perfect example being the CT 7000 tuner, where all the little used controls are neatly hidden under a flap)

Well put , and totally agree about the feel of the pots and switches.
I have one gripe about this amp and that’s the power cable , it’s literally like cheap speaker cables.
Should I change it though ? Not sure
