Beyond my technical ability and eyesight i'm afraid.
Thanks, Though.

Any idea what sort of attenuation i need?

I can only turn the volume up 10-15 degrees.

The excessive gain is a problem in that exposes a channel imbalance in the tkd pot at what would normally be very low volume (but not low for me).
It results in their being an imbalance for me at normal listening levels.

For the record, i didn't expect a 95 quid volume pot to have any channel imbalance even at normally very low levels.

Preamps should have balance controls!

Impossible to be exact, but -10db might be helpful.

There is another option, a cheap line volume control that you can adjust levels to suit. Chinese ebay sellers offer them and they work very well, I have one myself. Rothwell attenuators come in both RCA phono and XLR, and a whole range of values. They’re on the expensive side, especially the XLR type, but they are good quality.

-20dB is the choice of many, perhaps because that’s the level that was often found on amplifiers with a button to lower output. My Lenco amplifier dates from about 1970 and has a button labelled -20dB. I liked the sound of the Lenco with the -20dB button, especially at low listening levels - a fuller, warmer timbre without the artificial bass boost of the ‘loudness’ button the many amplifiers used to have.

I use these when needed... Variable attenuators 10/15/20db... Made by German Monacor/IMG who make gear for the pro market and about £30.00.

I have a set of those and can recommend them. Once you find the correct level of attenuation to suit, you you can then replace them with a set of in-line attenuators of the preferred value.
