I like my record weight, no faff at all. I'd have this off you, but mine is nowhere near worn out :D GLWS

Why do you like it?

Why do you like it?

My turntable came supplied with no platter mat, and a heavy record weight, which were no doubt found to measure better than the alternative. And the Technics-derived high torque motor has no problem with it. I have faith in the manufacturer's decision, and feel no need to challenge it by going against it. And I think it just looks right - on the occasions when I forgot to put it on, I got an OCD itch I couldn't ignore.

At £20 I'd say it's worth trying. And if it doesn't work out, it could become a really nice paperweight - ideal xmas gift for anyone working in a draughty office.

If I have to work any harder at selling your clamp I'll be wanting commission :D

Same as mine, similar to your weight.

Be perfect for playing 182g heavyweight vinyl though :)

Apologies Mike, for messing with your sale. Although you're getting lots of free bumps... Again, GLWS.

No worries, think I'll keep it in my arsenal.

Lots of humorous interjections here, but has anybody offered a serious explanation of the virtues of using a record weight? Or a weight versus a clamp?

A clamp will be threaded, so your t/t's spindle will have to be too. But they will be lighter, which may better suit some decks with belt drive or less torquey motors, and are less likely to affect suspended subchassis. more of a faff screwing on/unscrewing though.

A record weight will just drop onto the spindle, so quicker and easier.

As for improvements sq-wise, it will be a suck-and-see, some may give audible improvements, some may not. Cheap enough to be worth a try though imo.

This is a record weight. Not clamp.

Especially with how things are at the moment - I'm still waiting for something off Ebay which should have landed by Wednesday.
