View Full Version : How to scare “sangliers” (wild boar) away from your garden?
Winter is coming, it is getting cold, so the local wild boar have decided that my garden is a good place to look for food.
These are not animals I want to come face to face with, as they can weigh up to 150kg.
Does anybody have experience of stopping these beasts getting in fields/gardens?
I am thinking that an electric fence may be needed?
electric fence should work. my brother had one at his place to keep the animals in their fields etc. boar also dont like loud noise so maybe setting up a triggered alarm etc might work..
edit.. wolves sound would maybe scare them away... would work for me
perimeter minefield with concertina wire barrier. :D
you need thick hedges, preferably thorny/ prickly type. Or a wall.

12 Bore?
I have a 12 bore “available” as well as something more accurate.
I don’t think the neighbours will be too happy with me discharging firearms in the middle of the night though.

Find out what local farmers use, they'll have it figured.

Downsides - Might be a bit pricey.

It is/they are coming in from a farmers field. I don’t think he has it sorted.

they probably do use a 12 bore ;)
gunshot, dogs, loud voices are noises that scare them off usually. they are strong and stubborn so fence needs to be strong. walls are even better but costly. electify fence if possible too.
did read that there are human foods they dislike intensely so a mix of these things can be spread about. apparently human hair too can put them off.. much depends tho on what the rewards are in your garden i guess.
They are basically turning the turf over, looking for whatever is buried.
Holes all over the place, so cutting the grass next year is going to be fun.
No help to your situation, but I love a wild board saucisson.
although, thinking about it - any saucisson makers in your area, they may know local hunters?
I know the local hunters.
One lives next door, but they are not allowed to hunt in my garden, due the proximity of other houses.
I have found where they are coming in, so Imam going to try and set up an alarm to scare them away before they get in my garden.

Electric fence would be just the job if the electricity was coming from the mains. You might just get some free wild pork to stock up your freezer. Not sure how effective a normal electric fence would be - as kids we were always fascinated by them, and if I was by the fence woe betide anyone who brought his ears within my reach

Is this what he does when he's not running the local mosque?

I've been zapped by electric fences a couple of times when taking short cuts.

Electric fences will work for most animals - they keep horses and cows in so a little 150kg boar should be no problem.
We have holes in our lawn but that's just Border Terriers.

Having seen the carnage inflicted on fields, allotments, gardens, forests etc by Wild Boar, I feel guilty moaning about worm casts.
Good luck.

i'd try human hair... go to a barbers and see if you can get a load and spead it around. they hate that smell.. also human urine is another to spray about.. any human smells they dont like. that with a stout electric fence and maybe an alarm of loud shouting /guns / dogs barking and they should go elsewhere

worm casts are good for the lawn. might be unsightly but that is usually outwith the growing season...

Don't know about that, but I can appreciate the wild boar being wary about getting too close. Because if it didn't work out she'd probably write an album about it. And wild boar already have a bad rep.
Or perhaps Adele
I have never seen Adele in my garden, but it would not surprise me.

Well if you see her and the wild boar Rolling in the Deep be sure to say Hello.
Rumour has it, that someone like you played with electric fences. I thought about it when we were young.
I’ll be waiting for a Remedy, with which I can claim Hometown Glory. In the meantime, I drink wine.
All I ask is for the hog to leave, but He won’t go.

Wow. For all things Adele or Queen, Kevin's your man :) He won't let the Skyfall from your bum-hole.
I remember when I live in France and my sister and I were walking up a country lane and 2 wild boars went for my sister, it was as if I were invisible to them ! Of course I was going to save her but I couldn’t stop laughing [emoji23]

I think I'd give them a wide berth. They gave Old Yeller rabies you know.

You can shoot them here as well. Many are bred by the hunters, and then released.
My “shop door” alarm in a waterproof case seems to do the job of scaring them away.
The two ultrasonic devices I bought don’t seem much cop, as the battery looks to be flat already, so they will be going back.
I have now installed a trail camera to see exactly what is passing by as we spotted a fox this evening.
The deer have not come to play since we put the alarm up, so it is working on them as well.
Progress.
Having found where they enter my garden, I installed a variable frequency animal scarer.
They don't seem to like it.....

Downsides - Might be a bit pricey.I think the US were selling something like that off cheap when Trump got voted out. Or maybe there are still some water cannons available from when Khan took over from Boris.
