Having just bought a pair of Pro Ac D20R loudspeakers, lack of storage space means that my previous pair of Pro Ac D18 floor-standers need to be moved on to a new home ! These are in full working order and in good condition: there is a small amount of fading as seen in the photographs. Although not shown, the Pro Ac-supplied spikes will be included with the speakers.

I am the second owner and ProAc have confirmed to me that the serial numbers date them to August 2011. Basic specifications from ProAc website as follows :-

Frequency response - 30Hz - 30kHz
Dimensions (HxWxD) in mm - 930 x190 x 265
Bass Driver - 6.5" Fibre weave cone
Tweeter Driver - 3/4 Dome unit
Nominal Impedance - 8 Ohms
Weight - 25kg
Sensitivity - 88dB
Veneer - Maple

Happy to demo. Although I still have the original boxes and packing, the speakers are for collection only (I don’t drive) from LU7 in the UK.

I am looking for £850. Payment preferably by bank transfer. Strictly UK sale only.

Are these side ported?

Are these side ported?

Yes. The side view pictures (4 & 5) show the ports at the bottom - there is one on each side of each cabinet.

I had Studio 140 before these and found the D18 port arrangement to be more forgiving for room placement than the downward firing port on the 140.

I'm having my usual speaker problems with the 140's, too damn strident with some music, jazz wind instruments, classical, etc, may be it's just my ears? I thought they were better than the Anjs at first, but no the problem persists.

maybe the room or your position relative to the tweeters etc. one of the advantages of speakers with an L-Pad. the edingdales were great in that respect.

Mike, if the problem you hear is persisting through speaker changes, there may be a common denominator which is not speakers. It may be the room. Might be worth trying some room treatments. I don't mean committing yourself to anything to expensive or ugly, just play about with some cushions, pillows, towels etc in various part of the room. just to eliminate the room as a possible cause.

Or you could end up going through numerous speaker changes, and get nowhere. Just a thought.

Sorry about the diversion Bob, have a free bump.

I've moved about 9 months ago and same thing! I got a flashy cd player and same thing! I think I just need to try more speakers. I think it allcomes down to speakers and front end, espeically carts with TTS.

Hi Mike,

As this has been going quite a while and with different equipment have you considered testing your ears first before you spend out on more speakers.

As a start you could download a free hearing test app onto mobile phone or tablet, stick some reasonable headphones on and see what results you get.

You might have some mid range hearing loss making some music sound bright, it is possible.

Just a thought, cheers

Thanks Adrian, worth a try, I could probably do with some headphones too, to give the neighbours a break!

I think some laid back headphones with a decent headphone amp would be worth trying. If it's only the neighbours you're worried about I'd go open backed, something like the Sennheiser HD650 with an OTL valve amp, or some planars with a THX based SS amp.

Used to have those HD650s I think, back in the 90s when they were about £70.

I don't think they were ever £70 but I remember Richer Sounds clearing out the earlier HD580s for £50 wish I'd bought a pair then.
