Hi i have a pair of spendor sp2/2 and use open metal stands, i have a choice of spikes or blu tack to use between the speaker and the stand, one will couple the other isolate. I would prefer to use blu tack to ensure the speaker will not fall off if knocked but am willing to use the spikes if necessary.

Any ideas

Why not have some fun and experiment? Remember to trust your ears, ultimately your the only one who will be able to hear a difference!

I dislike both. Spikes chew the finish up and BluTak rips veneer off. I use rubber pads or hard domes or non-spiky cones. If you're worried about speakers being knocked off the stands just keep anybody clumsy (or drunk :)) away from them. Or get foorstanders instead.

I've have a pair of Spendor SP1s. They're on open stands and are placed on suspended wooden floorboards and I had problems keeping them stable. I've tried spikes and blue tac, neither of which solved the problem. So I got two heavy patio stone slabs from B&Q, and placed 5kg weights on each speaker. It stopped them rocking around and transformed the sound. I suspect the SP1s are heavier than are SP2s, but this relatively cheap option maybe worth a try.
