If you’re looking for a super chilled album with positive vibes, maybe give Khruangbin’s debut release The Universe Smiles Upon You, a spin. Their unique sound is what sparked my initial interest and was one of those moments where after hearing a song for the first time - you feel you have to find out who the artist is! A feel-good album mainly consisting of instrumentals with a sprinkle of ethereal vocals.

A universal fusing of different genres can be heard, with influences from funk, soul, jazz and even surf rock. You can easily imagine hearing any one of the tracks played in a spaghetti western directed by Quentin Tarantino. Overall an enjoyable listening experience with a relaxed feeling throughout. I can't help but nod my head to the soulful bass lines and laid-back drum beats. The guitar playing steals the limelight and carries the songs taking on the vocal role, forming melodies that feel familiar and memorable. The Guitar tone is gorgeous and as good as I've ever heard! You can definitely hear some Hendrix-inspired licks.

Zionsville is my favourite track from the album. A tranquil 4 minutes where you're delicately swept away and taken on a blissful journey. The guitar melody is captivating, creating an underlying feeling of contemplation. A cohesive rhythm section underpins the track whilst some atmospheric slide guitar and vocal musings produce a mediative undertone. Give it a chance if you are not familiar, look - forward to hearing your thoughts! Thanks, Billy

Another album I've never heard of, but your description has piqued my interest, and I'll seek it out at the weekend :)

Just finished playing this, and I must say I do like it. Some excellent guitar work, and the SQ shines through even on my bargain-basement streaming setup.

But I wouldn't mind hearing more in the way of vocals, sometimes it sounds a bit like what you get when your insurance company puts you on hold. Perhaps not so much if I was playing it on the big stereo, which unfortunately I can't yet. I would give it 7/10.

Have you had chance to listen? Very chilled and easy listening which is nice sometimes Just noticed your reply...glad you liked it! Vocals are sparse, I know what you mean. The guitar work is fabulous isn't it.
