Just seen the very sad news.
yes just saw it myeslf david.. with all family gathering it was most likely and at 96 these things can go quickly. she was 6 yrs younger than my mum. she drove ambulances etc during war too.. last of the real royals.. rip.

Yep... Seems strange her to not be here anymore. I'm not a royalist and really don't like what the family has become but the Queen was solid.

mourning to continue for 7 days after funeral... just so out of touch... trouble is by doing that they diminish folks feelings toward the whole thing ...

I don't know, after 70 years you can't just have one day and then forget about it. Maybe three days would have been sufficient though?

I'm sure that things will be quite normal the day after the funeral. 7 days is fair enough for the royals, but the rest of us have to work and carry on with life.
That's not to say that we won't remember her for the great person she was of course, but I'm sure we won't all be wearing black and beating ourselves with rods whilst tearing our ash-covered clothes for a week.
Agreed - it's not as if everything is going to come to a grinding halt. Shops will be open, as will banks and post offices. Cinemas and theatres will also be open, if the venues think it appropriate. As will sports fixtures.
she was a big animal person too.. horses and dogs are well known, but she had pigeons too

not had a tie on since wife died sadly(on both) i used to like wearing a tie and waistcoat.. my bp is all over the place at moment.. especially systolic..:doh: may be heart ..
edit. actually i did once a year after when my neighbours lovely 18 yr old daughter died.. that was another really hard day. i knew her since she was a baby

oh im ok.. i dont have telly... it was the best decision i ever made actually, and wouldnt take it as a gift now.

Looking good Barry! You quite closely resemble my old English teacher, who at the time seemed ancient. But you actually look younger than me... life is unfair!

I'm exaggerating, was just one burn mark after a party back in the 80s. It was a great little telly, fantastic picture at the time, and I don't even remember watching it from 10 feet away being an issue.

You don't notice after a bit, same with watching something in black and white. Going from 3 months with that little Sony straight to a 55 inch screen was a bit of a jolt though.

yeah course it is. The giant tellys are the only good thing about living in the future.
Imagine if you told people in 1953 wanting to watch the coronation that they could see it on a 60 inch screen in high definition with surround sound? They'd all be round like a shot. They'd smell of offal and jam though so you might want to open the windows before it got underway.

Although she wasn't in a position to make policy decisions people would recognise she had no political axe to grind, so could always trust her motives. Much of her good work over the decades will have gone by unnoticed by us, she just got on with it.
I don't think anyone else, inside or outside of the Royal Family could have that level of devotion, and probably never will.
The world will be a poorer place without her in it.

Yes I know, but which side were the Royals on during WW2 The Queen did here bit driving an ambulance etc.
she was also more Scottish than English. so as is way with monarchys, they are a bit mixed. im betting no one had a British hearse that was reliable enough to do the job up here. cannot have it breaking down so a newish one will have been used i guess.

My Dad was Polish, in fact according to others, where he was born was part of Russia so really Russian. That did not stop him being a Captain, then Major in the British Royal Engineers.

There is a company that runs a Land Rover Defender hearse, that would have been very appropriate - but of course it would have almost certainly broken down!
I must admit I have enjoyed watching some of the pomp and ceremony - no one does it like the Brits.
I liked the Queen, and sad to see her passing, King Charles has a tough act to follow but I think he will do well.

I agree, I think they could be pretty good. But I worry about Kate, she needs feeding.
I don't feel we could count on Harry and Meghan, the Royal Family's own John & Yoko.

I agree - with the world watching, it is clear why the Monarchy is important to Britain. Imo anyway. It makes me feel proud to be British.
Not sure that Rover or Jaguar were assets at the time they were sold. Been making losses for years. And Rovers were re-badged Hondas at that point anyway. Although those were probably the best cars they ever put out.

Thing with VW and a lot of public companies is that they are owned by the shareholders - and that could be anyone, anywhere. 14% of VW Group is owned by Qatar Holding LLC. Not entirely sure who that is but I'm guessing they don't wear Lederhosen. :)

My partner, who has been in London for the last few days, went to Buckingham palace to pay her respects and lay some flowers. There was a local flower seller there who must be making a fortune - £10 for three roses: one red; one white and the third blue (although the latter, if genuine, are expensive).

I'm sure His Maj is well aware of the homeless' plight, but I'm not sure what he can do about it. I wouldn't expect to see him working soup kitchens any time soon but then I won't be either.
Maybe he could help through charity work, God knows the Royals patronise a shitload of charities. But I somehow doubt his schedule will make time for that.

AFAIK the Royal family are not compelled to pay income tax, though for the last 30 years the Queen has done so voluntarily. So the notion that charity work is done for the purposes of tax relief just doesn't hold up.
I doubt the Royals had any say in these "evictions". And I doubt the homeless will get any mention in any eulogy. Today is a day to re-unite the Queen and her husband, and celebrate her life, not go on about the country's woes. No offence, like.
There will be a fair bit of pageantry, more than enough to make me proud to be British.
hopefully it all goes off without a hitch.. certainly enough cops there, plus im sure army etc... but there is always some looney.....

The new state hearse is thought to be based on the Jaguar XJ saloon design and customised by Wilcox Limousines, which is based in Wigan.
As well as input from the Royal Household, the Queen (https://inews.co.uk/topic/the-queen?ico=in-line_link) is believed to have approved the final plans for the vehicle.
