Doesn't look a great day ahead - but trying to be optimistic and hope that the sun will eventually shine through the clouds.

Been warm and sunny all day here, about 22C. Got finished a bit earlier, so decided an on-the-way-home cold beer was a good idea, especially as it wasn't my turn to get them in :)

It was 27C yesterday afternoon, but felt hotter for some reason.
36C predicted later this week, which means we'll probably get a degree or two more than that here, this is consistently the hottest spot in the UK. I should move!

10pm yesterday was clear sky and no wind. Perfect for bats I thought, and I was right - they were having a right old time round the garden. Shame I can no longer hear them, which I could when younger.
This morning 12C and still no clouds or wind. Gonna be a warm one. Which is nice, because I'm having a day off, and will have to spend 3 hours in the garden out from under Anita's feet, as she is doing a driver awareness course online in lieu of points and a fine. She's been fretting about it for days. She's been told to "dress appropriately", so no nipple piercings... but I think she'll get away with the fishnets and thong.

Only a mild 23.4C in the central hallway, and 25C in the lounge with, all blinds closed all doors/windows open and the adjacent kitchen/diner bi-folds open(I have tired closed and it gets hotter).
I think the Krell is doing a good job of raising the temperature i bit.:eek:

Feeling you want to sleep all the time is just as bad as suffering from streaming-eyes and congestion. And you can still feel drowsy but be unable to sleep.
24.1C in my living room right now. Looks like the heatwave runs through the weekend for once. Rain and a lot cooler here next week though.

Flash floods can be a big deal. Remember that one in Cornwall a few years ago, cut a swathe through the village, made a right old mess.
And about 15 years ago I was at a bike rally near Helmsley North Yorkshire. It was at the end of a hot dry spell. A sudden thunderstorm and all the rainwater came down the hill, and the site was deluged, a couple of hours after we left. Wiped out a shitload of tents, and a few bikes too iirc.

Now it's just a 70 percent chance of heavy rain. They've put it all back by a couple of hours too so if it does happen at least I won't get soaked walking home.
Not had a single thunderstorm here all summer. And we've only had one lot of 'monsoon' rain. That's when it is raining so hard that you actually have to go and look at it, and while you are looking at it, it actually increases in intensity. That used to happen quite often in the summer evenings here, up until the last couple of years.

Even with the windows open and a fan blasting away, we had difficulty sleeping.
Today, back in Chelmsford, it's a little cooler, but not by much.
I've just been drinking tea all day. Although I do that regardless of the weather.
Anytime I see Chelmsford mentioned I think of 'Chelmsford 123.' They should repeat that.

That year we noticed some bottles of water which seemed to be fairly cheap - and as "water is water" .... we bought them. Boy - did they taste horrible! I looked at the analysis which Italian bottled water has printed on the side - and in fairness it all looked pretty much OK. I see no reason to disbelieve the data, but that did convince me that even very small amounts of some materials can have a very adverse effect on flavour.
However my suspicion is that truly pure water would actually be very boring.

I see the parent company is Nestle, who probably don't have a good track record when it comes to bollox. I expect it was destined for Livingstone's markets in Zambia but accidentally got washed up at Livingston West Lothian. Zambia's loss Grant's gain :)

Impurities in water can be deadly, if you're in the bath and someone drops a toaster in :eek: I'm thinking that the only "pure" water is distilled, and am I correct in thinking electricity can't pass through it?
I wonder if distilled water (as sold at Halfords) would be drinkable? Has anybody tried it?

Not raining now, but looks damp and rain forecast for most of the day, with a possibility of thunderstorms. Expected high 17 C. Miserable looking day so far - though it's not had too much chance to develop.
Sounds like people down in the south have been having a rough time. The rain here is good - freshening up the grass, but I'd settle for more sun and warmth, without the high extremes.

I don't think it's weather-related but there's a big branch of a tree in the graveyard that's come down and is blocking one lane of the two lanes coming into town. There was a actually a crowd gathered just standing there looking at it. That's how exciting it is round here.

We had around three hours of rain here starting later morning, nothing very heavy, just steady.
They are predicting thunderstorms for us tomorrow afternoon. And fog in the early hours of the morning. I bet we don't get either.
Met office prediction for now is 'chance of precipitation <10%' which must be why it's just started raining heavily.
Just checked back they have changed it to heavy rain 80% the bloody dodgers. Changed it in the last five minutes.
Yes, it's predicted to rain heavily during the night here and for most of tomorrow.

It was supposed to have rained from 06:00 through to 15:00 today, but all we had was sunshine and the occasional shower. The temperature dropped to 20.5C, so away with the shorts and T-shirt and on with a collar and tie! ;)

I just wish the sun would come out more - less bothered about the temperature, but dullness really gets to me. OK - it's not awful today - but it's not good either.

Ugh - I hate spray: it means having the wipers on fast sweep, whereas to cope with the rain, the wipers would be on a more gentle sweep. So I will overtake as soon as I can.
However my car has 'intelligent' wipers which operate when it detects rain and chooses the speed for itself. :doh:
Went out for a long walk this morning. Not too warm, but overcast and humid. Got about half way round the walk when dark dirty clouds loomed up, threatening rain. Decided to cut short the walk as there was some stuff we had left outside that we didn't really want to get wet.
However on the way back decided to quickly pop into the farm shop to do a bit of shopping, and when we came out it was starting to rain - and rain it did, for about ten minutes; enough to get quite wet. :doh:

Our car also has 'intelligent' wipers, but my van has 'stupid' wipers which fart their way across the screen when the rain suddenly stops.
we have that early autumnal feel to weather now. 13c and currently a little sun(which wont last) but it feels cooler. fair breeze too.

Looks a bit brighter today - though cold. Around 11C now with a possible high of 16C and looking out there's a slight breeze. Blue sky though - and shadows on the ground - looks good to me.
Haven't really decided what to do - there's maybe some work to do in the garden. Nothing too exciting. The last "event" a couple of days ago was taking a microwave oven to the dump! That was heavy - as is its replacement. I never was really into weight lifting - but nowadays things like that are a bit of a struggle. Big issue with the dump trip - making sure the thing didn't drop and damage the car as we got it out.

It was so, and I took several pictures (much to Anita's amusement), but my incompetence prevents me posting them on here.
Something else that amuses me about Bowness (and all the other places up there) is the plethora of folk dressed for the great outdoors while shopping. Berghaus all-weather clothing and spotless fell walking boots that have never seen anything more challenging than the loft ladder at home. And minding the pushchair while mum goes in the shop for disposable nappies.
Lot of handbag dogs too, (or would that be rucksack dogs?), including two pugs pushed around in a pram. Wouldn't last five minutes on Helvellyn.
Spotting these while having me coffee I find more amusing than counting pregnant women when in Ikea. And it gets us out in the fresh air, which can only be a good thing :)

Be nice on the beach though, we usually found it to be quite breezy there. What's beer prices like there these days? Was 6 euros for 500ml glass last time we were there about eight years ago. Price probably contributes to the lack of drunken yobs though.

Went to a boot sale - my partner bought a virtually new garden table with four chairs. She's good at bargaining: not only did she get £20 knocked off the price, the seller threw in a six-pack of lager as well delivering the goods to us as they would be too large to fit in our car.
Talking of beer - the average price for a pint in a central London pub is £8, and is predicted to be £15 a pint by 2025! :eek: Here it is about £3.50, and that is high enough.
people will be making their own again.. used to be a lot of folk made their beer; a few up here made whisky too lol

yup, a big eatery at the centre. has a large outdoor area too, so in summer its nice there and next to centre car park so not much walking. food was good and no trash around at lunchtime; just shoppers really and folk wanting some food. no idea what its like in evening tho. probably like the one local to me(although its gone now) terrible
