View Full Version : Recommendations please for a 12V linear external PSU
Looking to pick up one of the above to separately power my Dac’s analogue section.
Originally was going to pick up something around £500 (Farad or the like) but wondering what billy bargains are out there in, say, Ebay DIY audiophile land?
Loads on the likes of AliExpress. But prefer UK sellers/ builders to avoid hassle.
what you guys using?
6A and above would be ideal.
Thanks. :)

Do you really need 6A? Sounds an awful lot for a Dac analogue section.
Tony at Coherent Systems does excellent psu's.
I had a Dac LPS made up for me by Tony at Coherent Systems.
It's brilliant.

Longdog audio do some great PSU's too
Thanks Folks,
6A is indeed overkill, but thinking in terms of headroom, lower impedance etc.
Dac only needs 2A, but a wee bit extra grunt in a power supply never goes wrong
Had a few of Nick's PSU's over the years, top notch stuff.
Shame you cant buy direct from him, ah well.
Will reach out to Tony, see what he can do.
Thanks All.
The other thing I know Tony at Coherent has done is jazz up linear power supplies from China.
Something like this is a purchase I'm considering.

Tony @ Coherent, Nick @ Long Dog, not Paul Hynes!

Ive got a LDA one, its excellent, its not the top of the line one, I picked it up 2nd hand.
I have heard the Coherant QP 2, it was clearly audibly better, built like a tank and big. I did have the QP1 on my wish list for a while after that, but I never pulled the trigger.
I picked up a used Ferrum Hypsos this month on fleabay and it is amazing. From memory I would say on a SQ par with the QP2 but its over 6 months since I had the QP2 demo.
The Ferrum Hypsos is however unbeatable in utility , its a hybrid of switch mode and linear power supply. You can set it between 5 and 30 volts ! It delivers up to 6 amps, its very compact and looks classy. Built quality is superb.
Highly recommend all 3 but I would not swap the Ferrum.
