I would have ate the whole bar but I already ate half of it last night.

Really good chocolate only ten bob a bar. You have to seek it out though, usually if a place has one of those 'Western Union' signs outside they will have it.

Kids these days have more Easter eggs than is good for them, and it is our duty as parents/grandparents to lighten the load.

Had one of these last night. It was a 200g jobbie, not yer 100g runt of the litter.

M&S... they'll be posh eggs, almost Faberge prices too.

We've still got another bunny, and I also have a Bounty egg which I'm saving for tomorrow. I know I can resist tonight, as I still have half a bag of peanut M&Ms to finish off :) I like chocolate, me.

The small bounty bars that came with the egg are actually called 'Fun size' bars. What is fun about them? They'd be more fun if they were three times bigger.

As I said, the egg had no mould, but it was a funny colour, a bit paler than it ought to be. Similar brown to a "Mucky Pup" plastic dog turd I had as a kid.

.

That's true. I mean with a 'mini egg' you know what you're getting before you even see it. There's no overselling. 'Fun size' is just them mugging us off.

I watched the Great Escape the other day. That bit where Jim Rockford tries to bribe the guard. The bar of chocolate he's got is the size of a bible. I mean it would feed a family for a week. And that was in a prison camp during the war. 21st century and what do we have? Try bribing a Nazi with a fun size Malteser, see how far you get.

If you don't like coconut, then you won't like Bounty bars. I do, but only if they are the plain chocolate version (in the red wrapper).

why do people like Crunchie bars? (or as far as I'm concerned: 'chocolate covered tooth decay' :D ).

I'd agree with that. I like blue Bounty bars, but prefer the red ones. Agree about the Crunchie bars too, they're just wrong.
I think my favourite thing though is the Cadbury's Dairy Milk with rum 'n' raisin. They used to be called "Old Jamaica", but maybe that name is no longer pc for some reason known only to those who like to be outraged by things.

That's the very one! I don't know why I was calling it dairy milk, it was always plain chocolate. And it says Old Jamaica too, I really should pay more attention to packaging. Anyway, I'll be calling in to Sainsburys on my way to my mate's shortly, and I'll be getting one (or two) of those.

There was nothing wrong with the design of the original, it looks like some effort has been made. Someone there decided that we needed it to be more obvious that we were getting Cadbury's, so everything now has to be purple-blue for milk chocolate, and red for plain (Bournville).

They had no "Old Jamaica" bars at Sainsburys this week, so settled for this. Ok but not the same.

That someone needs a slap. I've sometimes bought the wrong bar because they all look the same.

The reason they have no Old Jamaica is probably because they don't stock it. They used to but people who wanted it were looking for the old packaging and when they all they could see is the blue wrapper which used to mean standard dairy milk they just assumed that's all there was in stock.

So the shop ended up binning the Old Jamaica when it went out of date and didn't bother ordering any more.

At least that's my theory.

Added to which if you look at the old wrapper you can see the sailing ship, the jolly tars loading (or unloading, it's not really clear) the rum, the orange/red glow of the Caribbean sunset (the tars probably on overtime) and another boat setting off into the distance to deliver its chocolaty cargo to distant shores. All adds to the experience of scoffing it.

Now it's just a blue wrapper with some writing on it. Plus you need to keep a Stanley knife handy if you actually want to be able open the bastard thing.

You know why that is? So they can be re-sealable so they can claim fatties don't have to scoff the whole thing in one go. Even though everyone knows they will, I mean who doesn't?

saving money on silvered paper and machinery to fit it etc. bound to make a big dent in profits. older chocco bars were always much better presented and of a decent size too. just a rip off now; the packets are small and the choc is smaller than the packet.

Yes that's the latest con. Keep the price the same and every six months shrink the size of the bar, but not by enough so it's obvious.

It'll be a quid for something the size of a Freddo Frog soon enough.

I've pretty much moved over to that Euroshopper stuff anyway. Proper German chocolate and only ten bob for a bar. They do one for a quid which is three times the size of the Cadburys. I actually can't eat a whole one in one go.

Cadbury's re-launched the Old Jamaica in January 2020, and is supposedly back for good. Well I've learned something there - Fruit and Nut uses almonds, while Cadburys Whole Nut contains hazelnuts. I should tell Anita, she helped me eat mine on Sunday, and she hates almonds.

I'm not aware of the bog roll thing - I think the standard used to be 240 sheets per roll, but these days most folk want the quilted stuff, which is about 50% fresh air, therefore less paper - another con.

Your findings and my theory together might go some way to explaining why my toilet rolls don't last as long - I used to work on the assumption that as i average 3 sheets per wipe, 4 wipes per visit, that a standard roll would last me 20 days (+ 3 days as I give the toilet Sundays off).

But there is a variable: there are three and a half people in this house, and I suspect Anita's kids still put down 'rafts', as they have a phobia about splashback.

As your finding seems properly researched while my contribution is only a theory, I think you should be lead author on any paper that may be published from this.
