Would like to try something different to run the Rogers. Currently using my 211 valve based power amp with a Firebottle kin pre amp. Fancy trying a different power amp something maybe like a quad 606/707/909 or anything with a bit of oomph. Would need to work well with the firebottle. Room is 22’x 14’6. Having to go to 2/3 o’clock on the volume when playing at party levels🥳 Not sure this is a problem as it sounds fine just worried l may be causing damage .
Any suggestions?

Transmission line speakers like amplifiers that grip well, the Quads you mention are very nice but not the tightest at bass frequencies. A bigger NAD might do the trick.

Thanks. Don’t know much about NAD power amps. Will look into it

Don't rule out NAD integrated amps. They can be very effective.

You can use them as power amps too just plug the pre in to the power in sockets in place of the jumpers and you can use whichever option you prefer.

A Krell will get the maximum performance out of any speaker. Might be overkill in this situation but the way I see it why take a chance?

My ideal choice would be a pair of Quad 606 Mk.II monoblock amplifiers.

Rotel RB991.
Plenty of grunt.
I'm using mine with a Quad Artera Pre into Spendor S8e.
Including a service it owes me 500. Which is a bargain.

Your Rotel looks like a good choice, can’t see many for sale at that sort of price though.

Trying not to think about the money, but realistically it would be nice if l could get something for around £500 .
Or even better if someone wanted to swap for my Quad 57s that would be great. Then l suppose l could get something a bit better.
Maybe l should update my Quads for sale add to include “Swap for big power amp”.

Might be worth a try.

If you want something with some wallop but not expensive I've got a Linn LK100 I would let go for £200 plus carriage.

Strong recommend for a good condition recapped Meridian 557.
Beast of a thing, all the power you need and sounds terrific.

Near doubling of power at 4 Ohms, shows a rock solid transformer and output stage.
Considering picking up another for monoblocking and doubling power at some point.

Realistically you don't been to spent more than £500 on a s/h amp for these, you don't need total refinement. I've owned a pair and the similar R50s, and IMF TLS80s and TDL Studio 3s.

There's a Rotel R980BX on the Wam for £160 posted that will be more than fine for these. Slight cosmetic issues with side cheeks if that bothers you

The Meridian 557 looks good. There is a nice one on eBay but he wants £795 for it, does look in good condition though.
I was hoping someone might fancy a swap for my esl 57s. I will stay on the lookout for something interesting. 👍

Pink Fish Classifieds. For Service. I have Mike Powell. (Bolton) Who charged £157 to replace " aged and heat damaged components"
PS. Hi Fi bangernomics. I sold my Lyngdorf SDA2175 on E Bay. (Purchased fromJerry) Promo weekend on sellers fees.
It works out it's cost me aprox 57 squid, oh forgot Tenner on petrol and a drive to Bolton.

Yep 557 will drive them nicely and if a good one will last years, I know an ex Meridian engineer who services and upgrades these for around £200-300 and then they are like new and sound fantastic, they sound great anyway. I used to have one and should have kept it, silly billy.

Hi Adrian.

Looks like the Meridian would be a good bet. I will try and find a nice one.

Ian, I'm wondering if this is the same bloke who used to do repair/servicing for Practical Hifi. I have an ailing Densen CD player that wants looking at, and if you could post some contact details for this man that would be appreciated.

Sorry about the thread hijack Pete

Found an Electrocompaniat eci 2 integrated fairly local to me and have bought it.
Really pleased with it. Looks lovely and sounds great. Easily drives the Rogers and the esl57s.
70kilos of 211 and the firebottle pre upstairs on the spare system now.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
