As its 220v does it need a transformer?
Also can you say what £10K DACs it compares to?
Thanks
any new gen dacs ,If you are curious bring them over for demos.
1. And the voltage?
2. What technology would you include in the 'new generation' DACs that this can beat?
3. Incidentally how old is it
220V is within the UK range so you won't need a transformer.
is 220v you dont need a transformer as Macca said.If you are interested buying it you can send me a pm .thx
Hoe do you get a digital signal into it?
Hoe do you get a digital signal into it?
Indeed - Flo we need to see the rear of the case showing the connections. (It's in the T&Cs for sellers.)

I may be wrong but....
Some internal pictures of when it was possibly owned by a friend of mine.
This one was a fantastic piece of kit and sounded awesome.

Blimey, this DAC has not sold.
This is only my opinion, but as DAC's go, this is one of the finest ever made. Like, EVER.
The build quality, design and real world engineering excellence are stupendous.
No one has made DAC's like this for a long time because it costs too much to do so. Back in the day, it was only a company of the size of Sony who could have made such a thing.
The UK has always 'struggled' with accepting this level of quality and engineering genius from a humdrum 'Jap crap' company like Sony. You know, it's a case of where's the badge value mate? I've come across the same mindset with cars, bikes, camera's, etc., etc.
Trust me, if you can get past that and expand your horizon's a bit, then this DAC will blow your mind.
Forget Esoteric, Soulution, Naim, etc., etc. because great as they are, they can't hold a candle to Sony when they really pulled out all of the stops.
£1650? Crazy bargain for a DAC that would cost small high end manufacturers about £35k to make now.
If only I could afford it!!
GLWS.
Still waiting to hear how old it is :)
Googling suggest they were put into production 1987/88 and ceased in 1992. R1a version was released in 1989 as an update to the R1
According to Vintageknob.org only 250 were made in 220v for the EU market.

Hope that helps.
So its about 30 years old? To your knowledge has it had any repairs or maintenance such as replacement of old caps?
Alternatively do you know of anyone in the UK who can maintain it.
I'm not the seller I only provided some info for you to help age the device ;)
Thanks. Hopefully the seller will be along shortly.

Welk, now that's established, it's not the photos fault it hasn't sold [emoji14] [emoji16]

I’m always a bit suspicious when people post photos of an item and it clearly isn’t the item for sale : the picture of the rear panel is not of the unit that’s for sale

That may we’ll be the case but posting pictures of a different item is a bit deceptive and is supposed to be not allowed. Meant to be photos of all sides of the ACTUAL item for sale and for this item that’s clearly not the case and a blind eye is being turned.

no blind eye is being turned, can you back up your assertion?

I'm sure Flo can confirm it isn't from the unit he has for sale.
https://reverb.com/au/item/49618723-sony-cdp-r1-das-r1-top-of-the-line-cd-player-and-da-converter
He might have used the left rear photo as he didn't have one, or couldn't be arsed taking one ( naughty lol ) he was only showing what the connectors looked like, same as if he had used a stock photo. I do realise however that he should have used the actual item photo.
The other photos are no doubt of the actual dac as its a different machine (serial number) to the one in the reverb advert, you are reading FAR too much into that photo ;)
No it's a fair complaint, the photo of the outputs is clearly lifted from another advert for a unit that is for sale in the U.S
Photo needs to be replaced with one showing the connections on the actual unit for sale or the ad will be taken down.
you can take down the ad guys
