I would be worried about them burning out my retinas during a particulary heavy session though!! I am sure however they sound great. do they come with a bottle of factor 50?

Interesting, but what do they do about RF interference? From what little I recall about plasma tweeters is that they are basically a moderately powerful radio transmitter.

Hmmdn't t o, there is a full technical explanation of the Plasma tweeter on the Lansche site, see 'technology'.

Well it looks like a very serious attempt at a commercial plasma tweeter and one has to admire them for that. Considering where they are located one assumes they are making these things to all the proper standards with regard to RF emissions and electrical safety. The tweeter module looks like a well screened self-contained unit, though it does seem to need some ventilation. I recall that Fane back in the 1960’s could not get their discharge tube to work reliably in the Ionophone, but perhaps these gents have got it sorted.
Something new(ish) in speakers, now there’s a novelty!:)

Thanks Mike, the cabinets are sandwich construction they are a two man lift, I wanted a conventional speaker, that would have the dynamics tone and timbre of my horns, and these are the closest I have heard.
I hope to get a pair of their 'Cubus' next, they sounded absolutely magnificent in Munich this year.

Thanks TC, they are extremely well made, and engineered ( German ) I hope to do a couple of Uk shows soon, with Cessaro Horns and Lansche, Spiral Groove front end and our own amps.
If you are ever passing through North London do pop in, vb Keith.

They had the Cubus at Munich this year, they were stunning, rrp for those is about Euros 40k though, and you would need a decent sized room.
Mike I would like representation in the frozen North!
You might have to step aside from your mod duties though!

Just to ally any fears, Lansche loudspeakers do not produce Oxone, This from Lansche.
'Our Corona tweeter does not emit ozone due to the following reasons:
1. The temperature in the combustion chamber is kept higher than 350 degrees centigrade.
2. The electrode is surrounded by quartz which acts as a catalytic converter, converting O3 (ozone) to O2 (oxygen).
3. It also does not emit any positive or negative ions. This is due to there being only AC on the electrode and the high temperature.'
Keith.
Sure looks nice and must sound awesome
Keith is their a market in this country for speakers that cost this much I would of intiallty thought no but must be

I hope there is John!
Realistically quite a small one I suppose, Lansche are the best conventional speakers I have heard, they make a nonsense of the Magico,Marten, Kharma clones which are strictly hi-fi!

This is all very interesting seeing as corona discharge is used deliberately to create tons of "ozone". In fact i believe it is the most efficient way of creating it & is used in industrial type ozone generators that are used in houses that have recently been flooded to kill moulds & spores :) Grams per hour are possible, up to 30g from a pretty small unit.
If you look at a corona discharge ozone generator what you'll find is a high voltage AC transformer & a couple or more fine stainless steel mesh plates seperated by glass usually. They work on AC, if you want ions be they positive or negative then yes you'll need a DC supply & about 3KV usually fed to needle sharp metalic spikes. Another system uses fine carbon fibre "wires" & as they are so fine the DC voltage can still knock off individual ionised particles. These tend to be better as the needle type gradually blunt which means it's more difficult to spit particles off of the needle as it needs to be incredibly fine.
If the Quartz is used as a sort of catalytic converter then it'll likely do what the old Ionofane did & wear out. It was effectively the same system after all. From what i can remember the whole thing was effectively a radio transmitter that was modulated by the audio waveform. The HF transmitter provided the high voltage high frequency needed to create the ions & yes it was AC & the thing was modulated through a step up transformer like an electrostatic, or at least similar
I'm assuming there will be spare parts for when things wear out?
I'd love to hear one, i bet you couldn't imagine a totally massless tweeter with what should be an incredibly wide bandwidth. No breakup either as no diaphram. You are just moving air :eyebrows:

Reid Hi, yes they have to be serviced every 5 thousand hours, they are incredible tweeters though, crossed at 2.5khz , the best upper registers I have heard and the TAD703 ( fitted to my Cessaros) is superb.

How do you know when it is sevice time - do they tell you in some way??

I'm sure they are incredible & i'm not taking the mickey ;) Cheers for the reply Keith.
Looks like a service every 2.5 years the way i use my hifi if 5,000 hours is the service interval. Then it all depends on service costs :eyebrows:

Keith, do you have any idea if they are going to make the tweeter available on its own (as a pair) :eyebrows: Not that i'm complaining about my Beryllium domes you understand, i just like to keep an open mind
A general question on servicing if you don't mind ;) Obviously lugging a pair of two man lift per speaker cabinets back to have the tweeter serviced every couple of years will be a pita (even if the servicing is free ;)). I'm sure a much more sensible solution to this is to remove the tweeter units & ship them for servicing?
Ta in advance for your reply

Reid Hi, I don't believe Lansche have any plans to sell their tweeters seperately, and yes the whole tweeter is remove for servicing,
vb Keith.
Mark Hi, a mag has asked for a pair, so hopefully a review soon.
