Tannoy Monitor Gold Speakers LSU/HF/12/8 In Cheviot Cabinets which are well proportioned and easy to live with, can be placed close to rear wall.

The driver’s themselves had new surrounds in 2019, done professionally using foam surrounds rather than stiff surrounds or rubber.

No cone rub or scraping sounds, all functions perfectly.

The interesting outcome of this is that they do bass excellently, very HPD like, whilst offering the additional glories of 12” Tannoy Golds with the wonderful midrange.

Collection only from Chorley, Lancs. Close to Manchester, Bolton, Wigan, Liverpool, Preston.

If you're travelling from the south you'll need your big coat!

If you know the Cheviot/hpd model one would normally expect to find tone controls at bottom right on the front baffle. Tone controls not required as using modern crossovers for the lsu/hf/12/8 Gold monitor.

In the gap there's a flush cover which is easily removable and gives the option of redeploying tone controls in the Cheviot cabinet if reverting to HPD drivers/traditional xovers w/tone controls. Really no need though, these do the job fantastically well.

Speaker terminals are upgraded also.

The modern crossovers are Mastrad (by Mainly Tannoy acknowledged Tannoy expert on Ebay, design and build).

I’ve fitted a pair of new gold 4 pin plugs to each driver, also from MainlyTannoy.

There’s a lot if value in these speakers both in time, effort and money.

One of the magnet caps on rear of one of the drivers has a crack which has been successfully glued. See photo.

Whether you are new to the Tannoy dual concentric sound or familiar with the various models, these speakers absolutely rock, I can assure you of that.

I’ve had many Tannoys over the last 45 yrs including 10”,12”,15” hpd’s and 15” Golds as well as M1000 SRM monitor reds.

That’s why I know this pair stand their ground for pure pleasure in listening to music.

After testing these beautiful dual concentrics over a couple of weeks I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed in the sound.

Subjective I know, I’m asking you to trust my ears.

I’ve often travelled to get the best gear, these are in that category, they will reward your efforts.

If you’re looking for Tannoys to plug and play, and might I add at a cracking price, here they are.

At 93db sensitivity these speakers don’t need big watts, quality watts always help of course but these can be used with a very wide range of amplifiers.

Recently I’ve used a push pull valve amp and a 13W per channel solid state both achieving a full rich sound and three dimensional soundstage albeit in different sounding ways.

Oh, thank you... :) That's very nice of you to say.

I used to have the 12" Monitor Golds and they are very, very good indeed. And yours are in the best cabinets too. Much better than the Lancaster cabinets.

Someone will be very happy with yours. You can drive them so easily. I've even used these with a 15w digital amp and they sounded great.

Absolutely! I in turn have had great success using a Trio KA2002 integrated with 13W.

I felt I had no option but to add this wording to my ebay listing as it appears I am being stalked, gaslighted, call it what you will, by another seller who seems to take umbrance and has gripes about my sale for gawd knows what reasons other than a very flawed premise..........

...........he is in my view, and others, behaving fraudulently.

In the last 30 hours since I noticed the 'mirror' listing I have spoken to Ebay cust. svcs 3 times and the listing remains.
The 3rd time just now I felt confident that the person I was dealing with at least understood, I made her understand, my predicament and that anyone in the ebay back office would probably not be able to recognise it as fraudulent.
Anyway we'll see what happens.

Here's my additional wording to highlight the situation on ebay.........

"If you're interested but unsure you are of course welcome to come and listen to these speakers, because unlike a listing on ebay purporting to be selling the same speakers, I actually own these speakers as seen in the photographs unlike the other listing where for reasons known only to the seller, he chooses to use my photographs and denigrate the speakers all in the same breath.

Although I don't believe the other seller using my photos is a scammer he is certainly behaving fraudulently by displaying a pair of speakers he does not have to sell. I've no idea what is behind his listing, we do not know each other, we are nearly 200 miles apart, and he has not heard these speakers nor seen them in the flesh and is not in a position to comment on them nor cast judgement as all his assumptions are incorrect. I'm very sorry to be having to use this listing to communicate this information but it's the only defence I have until he or ebay removes his listing.

None of the points mentioned in his wording have any relevance as I have provided a full and extensive description of what components these speakers consist of as well as photos of various angles showing all aspects. If there's anything else you wish to view please contact and I will photograph specifically to your request."

My listing...........https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/275208118772

The fraud listing.......NOW REMOVED BY THE SELLER AS "NO LONGER AVAILABLE" !!

Thanks, Steve

I reported it to ebay as a fraudulent listing. It might be an idea to speak to the police, harassment is a crime.

Thanks for that Geoff, a few other forum members did the same and it's a shame that Ebay did not act sooner before seller ended listing.

You're right harassment is a crime, on this occasion the frustration of trying to make ebay back office team understand what was actually going on don't give me any confidence to pursue any other channels. The last person I spoke to did, I believe, take everything on board after getting her to read both listings and look at the photo's etc but then she would have to convince the back office team who are supposed to look into these things. If they're not ebay sellers themselves I don't see how they could ever spot or empathise with this type of situation.

I didn't want to message the seller directly, I wanted ebay to take action but with nothing done after 30 hours or so I did message the seller twice today, did not get a reply but noticed he'd ended listing late in the evening. Damage done, no comeback it seems unless there's something going on behind the scenes from ebay, I doubt it.

Truly shocking Steve, what's wrong with some people? It's looking like this tosser is going to get away with it, damage done as you say. But it's important that there's some kind of payback.

Here's an idea: Pose as a buyer for one of his other items, tell him you will come and collect in order to obtain his address, trash his car, take some pictures of it then list the bloody thing for sale. Buy it now for a fiver :) or best offer

This ebay 'pain in the arse' guy obviously doesn't know his Tannoys anyway.

There were at least three types of cone surrounds on the 12" Monitor Gold, initially the pleated paper doped cone edge, which was integral to the cone. Then the rubber roll surround and also the foam 'Tanoplas' roll surround similar to yours (which were lightly doped). Not entirely sure of the order of those two types, but I suspect the foam came last as that would be contemporary with the introduction of the superseding 12" HPD driver, which was basically identical apart from the uprated bass voicecoil power handling.

I was going to ask, which of these versions were these originally (I assume not the pleated as they would never need reforming) and were the drivers basically the same between the versions so you could interchange the surrounds to "taste"?

Also, are the seals around the smaller baskets and the front and rear cutouts airtight?

Sold today to whom sounds like a nice guy who will appreciate them!

Thanks for all the support on this thread :)

As a result of this any revenge thoughts I had about my detractor have dissipated and I'm treating it as an unwelcome but interesting distraction/learning curve. particularly as regards ebay back office support who appeared not to be able to see wood for trees, or something like that!

Alls well that ends well, well it will once i've delivered to Shepherds Bush later this month and everyone's happy. ;)
I'm on my way to Deal in Kent so kind of on the way.

Yes correct Geoff, the Tanoplas came last. I believe the rubber surrounds have not been available, nor manufactured as a spare by Tannoy for possibly the last 4 or 5yrs so I'm not sure if this was the reason previous owner had foam surrounds professionally fitted or not. From what I remember (they were running a studio) they were more interested in bass response hence the foam. I've had the stiff surrounds before on M1000 SRM 15's and although the mid range was phenomenal the bass was lacking in comparison to HPD's and my family were endlessly taunting me "where's the bass dad?"

hi Lawrence, I'm not sure which version of surround was on these before, I suspect the paper/pleated because they would not offer the elevated bass response and if rubber was unobtanium by then the foam would have been the go to.

Rubber lasts forever apparently, I've been happy with the foam and would'nt hesitate to supplement golds with foam if I had to.

Re the seals, assuming you're referring to the speakers in question rather than in general?

Good point, which is one where I intend to optimise if and where needed, before I deliver.

They're good as they are but if improvements can be made I'll make them.
