I would like an Albarry PP1, preferably with the phono section, for my loft system. I have decided to not sell my Heybrook HB3s, so this would complete the system.

Still looking.

So few were sold in this country, in fact I sold most of them. You might be better off looking for something else.

But I don't want anything else! :( I have plenty, I just want one of these. :brickwall:

I'd be a rich man if I could supply all the Albany I have been asked about since Neil passed away. Sadly, very little was sold in the UK

I borrowed a PP1 without a phono stage, and liked the sound.. Not enough to replace my Concordant Excelsior clone with a little Ming Da EL84 power amp. But I just fancy one with the phono stage as an alternative. And having sold some stuff, I won't feel guilty about it. Or rather, my wife won't be able to make me feel guilty about it! :D

A bit like looking for Rappaport stuff?

Dave, I have found someone who has one with an MC board. He says it can easily be changed to MM. I don't (yet) know if he means swapping or modifying; do you have any info on that?

Depends on the model but usually it is moving links.

Ah, thanks. That would be very handy. I have various SUTs for the MCs, but also a Sure V15 III I want to try.

I don't know, I haven't examined it that closely. It was given to me, on a Thorens TP16 arm, but I will be trying it out on a Mission 774 on my PTP6 Lenco.

I have had a look, and it appears to be an Original Shure VN-35E. No idea of condition, but I will get the USB microscope out at some point.

Well, I seem to have found something else. An Albarry PP2! Even more rare, with two transformers. Which is rather exciting (must get out more!).

Dual mono? Nice.

The heatsinks look rather small for 80W/channel. But I wouldn't be pushing it anyway, a 12W Ming Da EL84 amp has more than enough power for the HB3s in the loft system. I hope I manage to get it, but there is nothing on t'interwebs about it, apart from one for sale in Italy some time ago.
Ooh, it's so exciting. :yay:

And the serial number is 20002, which probably means it's only the second one made. Maybe there were only 2?

Might well have been.

Sadly, with the second coming of Albany, very little was sold and especially so in the UK. Things were going tolerably well until the prices increased dramatically to allow for export pricing and thereafter all sales ceased in the UK. My demo stock eventually went to Italy, which was the 'largest' market.

Was it a second coming product? And was there a manual for it? HiFi Engine has no info on Albarry at all. All I know about the PP2 is it's 80W/ch, and there is a link to remove to turn it back to MM.

hifi dave; do you know what the two LEDs between the volume and source knobs are for? Neither have lit up yet, and I won't be opening it up and tracing the circuit for a while, so it would be good to know if I should be worried!
The amp is working fine driving Tannoy MG12s; a bit euphonic, but that's rather nice, and a satisfying amount of bass slam. It appears to get a bit confused on complex material, but it apparently retailed at around 10% of the price of my main pre/power set up, so no real criticism.

Albarry was very popular in Italy, especially for the look and the front panel, which reminded the colour of "Rossana candies" much loved from children and adults.

I had three PP1 along with the original M408 and AP1 preamp.

A bit pricey, but I wonder where in Como he lives. Been there many times.
My PP2 at £350 posted feels like a bargain. First thing to do is change the speaker binding posts, and then possibly add an IEC socket. The Alps Blue volume pot is 10k ohms, and small, so changing that might be a bit tricky. Otherwise, it's fine.
