very sunny here too, and mild.

Not crap weather for March. It's rare we even see the sun here until sometime in April. Around Easter usually, then it disappears again until July.

7c overcast and showers. That's crap.

Pigmy Pony
01-03-2022, 18:58
Not crap here. After a frosty start we had blue sky all day. And actually felt quite warm in the sunshine. No doubt we'll be back to normal tomorrow.

A sunny 2C at moment, with expected high of 7C. At least it's not peeing down, which is nice as I'm off to fit a new bathroom window for my unwell brother - he's currently recovering from all the shit that cancer treatments put you through. I don't expect having a nicer window to look at while having a dump will be high on his list though. :(

0C and icy. So much for the milder temperatures we were supposed to get. At least it's clear, sunny and dry so far.

The birds are acting weird, there are hundreds of blackbirds and seagulls milling about.

Pigmy Pony
08-03-2022, 08:35
Don't normally see blackbirds gathering together, so that is weird. Normally it would be scavenging birds like gulls and crows, attracted by a lucrative food source.

We seem to have a lot of magpies up here, bloody things are everywhere. Not good for garden birds.

Maybe starlings then, they like to gather and are about blackbird-size. Or even jackdaws.

It was actually quite bright here today - but it's still been pretty cool.

I don't think global warming is going to reach these parts for quite a long while.

I just made the connection - the sun today probably indicates relatively little cloud, so now it's going dark we should be able (a fairly rare occurrence) to see stars.
Went out to check - and indeed some are twinkling away. So what heat we have is being sent off into the infinite void! No clouds to keep the heat in.

been a bit crap here, sun was gone by 1000 and it's quite cold. Had to walk to the 'University Quarter' to post a parcel as our post office was closed for no reason.

Thousands of bloody students. Still as poxy as ever.

waited in the queue a while, the bird behind the counter is the same 'dead slow and stop' one that works in our office (when they can be bothered to open). Don't know what's going on there unless she has a twin.

Nearly at the front and the bird before me wants to send a parcel. Thought that was bad as it takes them ages to do it but then I see she's got this massive bag at her feet full of parcels, she's actually sending nine not one. Thankfully before I could embark on a killing spree they opened another window.

I think post offices have mostly improved (our local one is attached to a Spar shop and is usually adequately staffed). Sounds like the memo sent to your branch telling them to get a grip got lost in the post.

My (then) local post office in Leyland could have been a contender for Britain's Worst. It had two counters, but I never saw both open. Counter one was manned by a bloke who seemed to be in charge ( though there was no one else), and like your bird only had two speeds.

Wintertime was worst - no heating in the place, just a two-bar electric fire (one bar on) next to him on the other side of the perspex. To help keep the heat in, the other counter was closed off with a torn off piece of cardboard which in a previously life probably contained biscuits as it said "cVities ich Tea" on the side.

If I went in and there was more than one person in the queue I'd turn and leave as I only got an hour for lunch. And this is where I came to return my unwanted "Record of the Month" items from Britannia Music - probably explains why I have so many Phil Collins and Eurythmics records in my collection.

Macca
22-03-2022, 08:00
There's always a queue at the post offices here, if I walked out then I'd never post anything.

Used to be a big post office here with about 8 windows, always be a queue at them all but the staff were efficient so you wouldn't wait long.

Then they moved to a much smaller place round the corner, 3 windows but the staff were old ladies and were still efficient.

Then they moved to an even smaller place with 2 windows with this idle young bint running the show and - if it's actually open - the queue always runs out the door and down the street. She moves like she's in slow-motion. I wouldn't mind but she's been doing it for years. You do the same routine tasks over time you get faster and faster at doing them, at least that's how it works for normal people. With her it's like it's her first day every day.

I'd say it takes her at least 5 minutes to process one parcel - type in the address, print the sticker, put it on the parcel, take payment. Shouldn't take more than two minutes.
She needs time and motion, or a good kick up the arse.

Well they've had thousands of years to move south and haven't bothered, so they must be ok with it. No good for me though - I've never seen an igloo with energy efficient windows and doors, so I'd be out of a job. And I bet they don't have carpets either, just lino.

All this means it can be as cold as minus fifty degrees Fahrenheit outdoors but as cosy as 19 to 61 degrees Fahrenheit indoors,

61F is bloody cold and that's the maximum? Count me out.

Although thinking about it, that's still warmer than it is in my bathroom right now. Maybe I should replace the bathroom with an igloo?

So the igloo just keeps you from dying of hypothermia. You'd have to keep all those furs on inside too and then when you have to go out you won't feel the benefit.

yes my mother too, and my nan was even worse. Pretty much everything she ever uttered was a dire warning of the consequences of doing things most people wouldn't think twice about. Stroking a dog, buying ice cream from a van, kneeling on the bus seat - you get the picture.

According to my grandad I was 'a perisher' and in that respect I took after my uncle John. (Never met him, they both had about a dozen brothers and sisters each, most of whom were long dead before I was even born. My mother is always telling me 'You remember uncle so and so!'. No I don't, he died in 1949).

I have the alarm set to 0830 but am usually up by about 0730 (except in the depths of winter when it's dark until 0800) as the daylight always wakes me up.

For some reason it's almost always bright in the mornings round here, then it clouds over by about 0930.

I think in the last year the alarm has woken me up once.

Sunny here this morning but only 1C.
