View Full Version : Loricraft PSU advice

Hi,
I am soon to have a Loricraft PSU for my Garrard 401 as per the below image,there maybe a problem with it and I just wonder how I can test the output on this there is an output two pin plug as shown in the picture that I need to wire my Garrard 401 into but am not sure where to wire the positive & negative connections to so any advice would be appreciated & also how I can test the output what I will need in terms of a multimeter etc..

Will it do any harm to my garrad 401 if I connect it to see if it works?

I am a complete novice when it comes to these things & will be picking it up next week so thought I would ask these questions in advance...

The output will be c240V AC (ie mains) so if you don't know what you are doing, probably best to let someone who does check it out.

The output is probably balanced so both will be the same but opposite phase.

The metal chassis of the 401 should be safety earthed - not sure how that is achieved.

The Loricraft PSU is a regenerative power supply. That is, it generates a completly fresh 50Hz mains AC signal to power the turntable; so there is no "positive" or "negative" connections to worry about. As the plug only has 2 pins, I assume Loricraft expect the metalwork of the turntable will be earthed separately.

I don't know what the current arrangement is with your TT and arm, but it is very important the earth continuity connection is maintained.

Just an update on this I have now got the Loricraft PSU and as a two pin plug came with it wiring this was fairly straight forward with earth,neutral & live connections...I then tested it with a volt meter and the AC power was 238 volts & very steady & then checked the Garrard 401's required voltage which is 220 to 250 volts .I have not had to tweek the eddy brake as normal & the RPM app in Gyro mode staes an RPM of exactly 33 & 1/3 RPM....

Just one thing there is a large heatsink as per the picture in my first post and this heatsink gets hot ...is this normal or is it something I should be concerned about...

It's normal I should think. It's basically an amplifier feeding a transformer to up the sinusoidal amplifier output (50Hz) to c230V.

Thanks I got some feedback on PFM from a member who has the same PSU & he says his heatsink also gets hot..
