Much maligned for Celi's performance , but i believe underated , but it depends if your as much a history nut as i am , its said that Coppolla based his Godfather movies on the Borgia notoriety .

A new series with Jeremy Irons as Rodrigo Borgia in the new year , but i really like the bbc effort from 1981 despite its shortcomings.

Hi Chris, yes i remember watching most if not all of that serial :)

Very entertaining from what i can remember with some very good acting ;) From what i appear to remember the father was lusting after the daughter :eyebrows:

Tbh i'm more into stuff like Simon Schamas' History Of Britain rather than set period stuff, though all in moderation can be very entertaining!

There are quite a few of the old BBC series of all sorts of things that i'd like to see on DVD but they just don't appear to release them :doh:

I keep hunting for Cold Lazarus (by Dennis Potter) but the only time i have seen it was on ebay & it was video recordings copied to DVD. Without knowing the picture & audio quality i wasn't gouing to investin it...

I just looked it up to find the book author & stumbled on a wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_Lazarus).. It's being released on DVD in September this year :partytime:

Thats a result then ' if so , the bbc don't do drama like that anymore , its all reality tv and crap these day's , not to mention the repeats .

Yes i loved that series , great performance also from John Hurt as Caligula ! .

Both my Father and i always watched and enjoyed these historical drama's , which seemed to come one after the other back in the late 70's , then went out of fashion .

Another great series from 1971 ' Elizabeth R starring Glenda Jackson .

I do have to confess to rather liking Mistresses, which is not hard on the eyes, so the BBC can still do it when they try.

Well yes indeed , and as i mentioned in my 1st post look out in the new year for the new Borgia series ' though this time its a collaboration , with Neil Jordan directing .
