I've had this from new for about 17 years and it's probably seen about 500 hours of use since then if that, about 50 films and a bit of time filling in between amps.

It has multiple uses, it was designed to be added to a 2 way Hifi to add 5.1 channel functionality for those who want an AV set up but without giving up their 2 channel system, and it works amazingly well like that.

But I've found that the settings can be changed to use it as a power amp (great with a passive) or an integrated with built in DAC (coax and optical but no USB, I used a convertor). And it sounds as good as some pretty good amps in those modes, clean/clear with tight bass, the traditional Yammy sound. It's rated as 3x70w into 3 channels (8 ohm) so I reckon about 2x90w in stereo mode.

Additionally it has a speaker impedance matching switch on the back like a valve amp - a nice feature that does work. I have the remote which controls the amp in both integrated and surround modes.

Slight scratch in the front fascia as shown and one on the top grille.

It's collection only as I don't have a suitable box for it, currently located in the Durham/NE England area. If someone can collect from N London I can arrange to have it there but unless they let me know today or tomorrow AM it might take a while.

Asking £50 which is a bargain for the sound quality and versatility.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220101/2ec4b7ee7b4bc211b3e2ff529af91c9f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220101/1748e42d77e3c5c235aa5f4381b4e2d4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220101/f94e13b2a40defda0044d34fb23b097d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220101/2011c4fa08e2734074b549076889ef01.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220101/4dd9e63425165d38fabfff98ba03a04e.jpg

My first serious AV amp. As Laurence says it only powers the rear and centre channels and has adjustable pre-outs to connect your own stereo amp. Your stereo speakers are now the front channels in surround.
This amp has the same chips as Yamaha's then top of the range AV amp.
I remember Ken Kessler of Hi-Fi News had one and raved about it.
Bargain and vital if you do not want to add another pair of speakers as your fronts. Plus it's also has 3 optical and two rca digital inputs so it can also be your dac.

Cheers Vince you're right I forgot about the KK review that's probably why I bought it. I'd say with a passive pre (or any decent pre) it's in audiophile territory as a power amp, and sounds better than Nad, Rotel etc as an integrated plus you get a free DAC that way!

I'd keep it as my power amp if I hadn't just bought a 4 way Roksan Caspian to biamp the Ushers

On hold as I can't get hold of it until half term holidays now, but happy to put someone's name on it if they want it.

This would be ideal for someone who wanted to try experimenting an active speaker setup by using two channels to drive the bass and two channels to drive the tweeters.

Would need a multi-channel dac (a cheap 5.1 or 7.1 gaming dac will do) and software to stimulate the cross-overs.

And of course just using it in stereo mode in a passive set up will be mighty fine.

GLWS Lawrence.

Thanks for the idea Edward, but in fact this is a 3 channel amp, so it can't power 4 channels like a 5.1 amp could. I know you had some success with your experiments.

This is added to a 2 channel amp to add all the processing/pre amp functionality, and power the centre and 2 rear surrounds (while your stereo amp powers the front mains) plus an RCA out for a mono sub. Thus you can have surround sound without having to buy a 5.1 channel amp with poorer performance when used in stereo. You keep your stereo and speakers, and just switch this on when you want surround sound.

However, as I said it works really well as a 2 channel remote integrated with 24/96 DAC (and bass/treble IIRC), or at its best as a power amp.

Cheers Lawrence. Just assumed it was a 5.1 av and did not appreciate (i.e. did not read your post properly) that to get to 5.1 you need to use a stereo amp.

good luck with the sale.

How's this for one of the longest waiting bumps in AoS history?
