View Full Version : Computer to headphones
I want to put a quality headphone socket on my computer but don't know where to start. Price up to say £500
I'm guessing it needs to be USB wired and contain the DAC and soundcard. Any suggestions?
I have a Russ Andrews RAVE 1 external speaker amplifier, fed by USB, that I have used for many years without fault, but it doesn't have a headphone socket. Perhaps there is something that will drive speakers and headphones. Price of combined unit up to say £1000
Thanks
i use nura cans mostly over long range bluetooth dongle and roon on pc. i have to say its better imo than wired cans.

That's an option I hadn't thought of. I guess that still uses the soundcard and DAC in the computer.

Is it these you use

yes thats the nuras.. ive another smaller pair too but these are the ones to get. can be used wired too. the app on phone will set them up and analyze your hearing( the guy who designed them is an hearing specialist from australia apparently). they really to compensate well for failing hearing in certai frequences.(you dont have to use this if you dont want to)
the dongle is usb and ive used this one for years.

its the dogs danglies and i can go upstairs into other rooms etc and still get good reception(obviously this will depend on how thick walls are etc). Sound quality is excellent and lack of wires and bits of equipment etc is a big boon. Ive 3 good pairs of wired cans including oppos and they just dont get used. the soundcard/dac in your pc is not used as its digital.
another wireless set ive got are these sonys. Sony WH-H900. (giving them a workout at moment after a download)

they are pretty decent but not really as good as the nuras, although more comfortable, and the latest download software is a big improvement as bass used to be a bit boomy.
just got a set of these free after buying a new phone recently.
