Hi, I'd like some advice on connecting a smartphone to an (Electrocompaniet) amp for casual playback from youtube etc though streaming isn't my thing.

If the phone has a headphone out then just get a half decent 3.5mm to 2xRCA cable off eBay. It won't be as good as high res Bluetooth but ok for casual YouTube etc.

yes you can get units to plug into amp. blutooth adaptors or recievers they are called. check what quality of blutooth your phone can put out and get one at least as good. prices vary from about 20 up.

Which Electrocompaniet amp do you have, one of them has internet and streaming capabilities (ECI 6 DX MKII INTEGRATED AMP/DAC/STREAMER) if its not this then hard wire as others suggest?

Alternitively get a RPI (£30) with DAC for £30+ and stream to it with it connected to your amps aux, I would use Volumio as the software interface on your devices and the streamer on the RPI, you can then use the RPI with Mobile Phone, Tablet or Computer as you will see it on the WiFi network.

if tv has bluetooth it could stream audio to it, or vis a vie you could connect the bluetooth to tv and stream phone to it. might need to watch for lip sync tho which would likely be wrong. a moden tv would have bt in it likely.

I've had a really love hate relationship with bluetooth.

I have a couple of bluetooth speakers (a Bayan Soundbook (https://bayanaudio.com/pages/soundbook-x3) and a Tribit XSound Go (https://www.tribit.com/products/Tribit-XSound-Go-Bluetooth-Speaker-Blue)) and they work faultlessly, and are brilliant. I use them regularly, one as my bedside speaker (Bayan), and the other as a travel solution (Tribit). Also my car (a Vauxhall Meriva) connects with my phone reliably. Occasionally I have to restart my phone before it will connect with those devices. But otherwise, once each is connected the connection is solid and doesn't drop out.

I've tried a number of Hi-fi adapters and most of them have not been as reliable. They regularly drop out or stutter, and need line of sight connection of the phone and can be upset by me moving around the room. The best I've used is my Simaudio Moon Mind 2 which is pretty solid - but a very expensive solution if you only want it for the bluetooth. An iFi Zen Blue was good too (though not as reliable as the Bayan or Tribit), and the solution I'd recommend to connect to a hi-fi. The others I've tried were too annoying to use. Including a number of cheap ebay ones, and an arcam unit.

Now I rarely connect to my hifi via bluetooth. Only to occasionally listen to some music on Youtube. For things like Sounds and podcasts, I use the bluetooth speakers. The quality of the speakers is good enough for speech which I use those services for.

Most modern TVs will have Toslink output. Check if yours does.

If so search for 'dac Bluetooth toslink rca', there are many.

Here is one found at random. Looks well reviewed. Obviously for this type of money it is not audiophile high end, but I expect it will give decent quality for casual listening.

Any thoughts anyone?:scratch:I use an Audioquest Dragonfly Red DAC with dragontail connector with my Pixel 6 Pro with superb results. The Dragonfly connects to the amp by way of a 3.5mm jack to RCA cable.
