View Full Version : Do not order from Bokrand (anymore)
So I know there are a lot of fans out there but that doesn't change the fact that you won't get your tonearm. I've emailed Alfred numerous times and given an ample wait time past the expected time (I ordered Nov 2020). I've gotten replies that it'll be sent out etc. None of that is true. At this point there is no expectation I'll ever see the tonearm I paid for... I even made the mistake of not buying it through eBay to save him some $, but now I have no recourse.
Fair warning, any postings on eBay for them are bluffs. You will receive nothing. Alfred's health is so-so, and he should not be attempting to sell anything. I wish him health but not this scam of letting people pay for nothing.
As for my own reference, I've organized GBs and sent out PCB boards to hundreds of people. I do work for other companies as well, and have delivered on everything. If you think I have any ill intent you'll find nothing to support that, this post is only to forewarn other people that you'll be throwing money away.

Thats nonsense boss, I ordered an arm and its arriving next week, 30 days to make one which is excellent considering what the world is undergoing.
If that's true, lucky you.
No nonsense on my part. I've been waiting over a year with lots of promises, nothing so much as a tracking #.
Alfred has contacted me. I will keep this thread up to date. The purpose here wasn't to get him to reach out to me, it was that contact was not doing anything. If he indeed does send me a tonearm I will not hesitate to make it known.

Please let us know if you get it :)

Thats nonsense boss, I ordered an arm and its arriving next week, 30 days to make one which is excellent considering what the world is undergoing.how can you say it’s nonsense when you haven’t received it. If you had said “ that’s nonsense I ordered one and it arrived this week “ ok

Is it one of these: http://www.stefanopasini.it/Audio_Index_Bokrand_Tonearms.htm
If it is, how much did it cost?
Thanks
I received an email saying it shipped. Will continue to update.

This is the 2nd complaint regarding these arms, I similar discussion cropped up over on Lenco Heaven.
Can't believe you waited 13 months to bring it up on a Forum, you've more patience than me, by that time I'd have been at his door [emoji23]

Today I received my Bokrand arm. It comes packed safely with a nice little booklet with picture for a couple things.
That was quick !
We have different definitions of quick.
Alfred has asked if I am satisfied with the arm. Yes I am satisfied with the arm. And yes he got on the move after I posted on forums. He asked that I post, and I have no issue saying I don't believe he has any nefarious motives at all.

A good outcome, dealing with 'one man bands' does come with some issues, but the advantage is you get a very good product at a fraction of retail price... usually.
The price is a steal. You get a lot of everything good for an arm.

Good outcome.
i ve just bought one of his arms from eBay .

Thread title really needed changing ?

Yes it's not doing then any favours
I will change it to just 'Bokrand ' but only if the OP is happy with that. He did have to wait a long time even though he's got it now.
Does anyone here have Alfred Bokrand's email contact ?
My communication with him is via ePay and that wont allow me to send him my email address !

Does anyone have a contact number for Alfred Bokrand? I'm trying to get a delivery date on an order from December but he's not answering my e-mails (but is active on eBay). Thanks.

Not ideal! Were you expecting a delay or is this bad customer service again?
I'm always amazed when people order bespoke items from people who sell all over the world via forums etc and no doubt get swamped with email, pms etc, then wonder why it's not ready in a few weeks.
In this current climate, raw material supply issues, makers age and health etc it could be months before its ready.

Agreed, hence my question as to whether it was expected. Ie. was a potential delay communicated at the point of purchase?
There’s no excuse for ignoring emails from people who have paid up front whilst you are still seeking further business. Swamped or not, it’s not on.

For my own experience \i can only say I have ordered counterweights for my Ortofon arm on 2 occasions (to suit SPUs) and on both occasions they arrived in a timely manner. This was a couple of years ago to be fair.

Bad customer service. There have been several unexpected/unexplained delays and I'm not the only person in a similar situation. See this thread - https://www.whatsbestforum.com/threads/ordering-a-bokrand-tonearm.34065/page-15
Even though he says he has a backlog of 40+ overdue orders
"the oldest order is a year old, then orders 6, 5, 4, 3 months ago." he continues to sell on eBay (here (https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?item=314516169925&_ssn=analogandmore4you&_sop=13)). Taking new orders when you can't honour existing orders is a strange way to do business. This comment on the WBF thread I linked to sums up my feelings -
It is a very simple solution, just let people know when you will be able to fulfill their order. For example, I would have been ok even if I was told I would need to wait for 3 or 4 months or maybe even longer. It would have been my choice to decide if I want to pay and wait. However, you told me -and as far as I can see, a lot of others- that you can ship much sooner than you already know you couldn't. This is called false advertising.
I am sorry about your health and sincerely hope you get better. I applaud your craft too. The way you conduct business is however very problematic.

Reminds me of that guy who's hand built speakers and sold them online. When What Hifi gave them a 5* he sold loads but he couldn't make them fast enough. I forget what the company was called.

I think this is wrong. Surely, it would make sense to make quite a few of these tonearms, especially as they seem to be popular and have some sort of traction as a product, that way many orders could be satisfied without long waiting times. Just my 2cent..
I got my Bokrand AB 309 just yesterday.
Still lettting out long sigh of relief
Its taken very nearly one year
You will see my post here on 10/05/22 (#19) i had just bought the arm from him on eBay.
It was quite disconcerting when the money back deadline had lapsed on eBay and i couldnt even message him
Hence my request here in Dec 22 for his regular email address.(thanks Charlie)
The old fella was in and out of hospital.
At one stage he said mine was one of 21 arms, then a few months later it was one of 40 !
When i reminded him that it was 11 months ago that i put the order in he got going with mine and offered me the 'improved' version for no extra money.
Better bearings i think.
It looks lovely.
so yeah be prepared to wait
I posted this on another forum (WBF) but thought it best to also do so here as a public service.
"Unfortunately, Alfred's unsavory business practices (basically robbing Peter to pay Paul) are continuing.
In brief, I purchased an AB309 off ebay on 19 January, but only after getting Alfred to confirm the following before purchasing:
"Hi Adrian
I confirm shipping with DHL and tracking shipping next week Friday" (i.e. 26 January)
Best regards
Alfred"
Given the various complaints about his practices all over the web, I thought it best to get written confirmation in advance of purchase and to pay with paypal.
As I was going to be away for work the following week, I also wrote to him to give him more time to ship so I could be home to accept delivery.
Sadly, no communications from him since purchase, notwithstanding some gentle reminders.
Today, I wrote to him to advise that if I did not receive the arm by 14 February that I would be opening a complaint with ebay/paypal. I also stated "It is unfortunate that you are forcing me to take these measures and I had sincerely hoped that you would honor the commitments that you made before I purchased the item. I hope you will rectify the situation soonest."
In the interests of transparency and fairness, I will update this post, but, based on my experience to-date, I would strongly suggest not buying from him at this time and certainly not via a payment method for which there is not ready redress given his business practices (i.e. definitely not via bank transfer).
At the same time, I do hope he gets his affairs sorted and generates the funds in advance to actually produce and distribute the arms in a normal, timely manner.
Cheers,
Adrian"
Any news on Alfred?
I canīt find any trace of him on ebay anymore.
Itīs a shame, as I am pleased with his tonearm.
Though, I also had some big delays about two years ago when I was buying mine, I was still thinking of buying one of his 16" tonearms in some undefined future.
Say after the sommer.
