Hi everyone.

My name is Konstantinos, from trouble-ridden Greece.

I currently have a 6-year-old system consisting of the following:

1. Philips DVP-9000S Cineos SACD/DVD player
2. Audio Analogue Primo Settanta integrated amplifier
3. Klipsch RB-25 loudspeakers
4. Monster Cable Interlink 250 interconnects
5. Roister (that's a Greek loudspeaker company) OFC speaker cables
6. Atacama Nexus speaker stands

I came here seeking advice, because I'm planning to purchase my first turntable (and my family's first decent one too, as the ones we've had to put up with so far were horrendous plastic units incorporated in ghastly complete all-in-one systems) and I'm also planning to build the next phase of my system around it.

As for my musical tastes, although I'll usually tolerate almost everything (with some exceptions), I prefer prog rock, jazz, blues and electronica and have recently begun to explore classical a bit.

Hello Konstantinos, welcome to AoS. Nice choice of name - I presume you come here pursuing ataraxia - "the state of robust tranquility that derives from eschewing faith in an afterlife, not fearing the gods because they are distant and unconcerned with us, avoiding politics and vexatious people, surrounding oneself with trustworthy and affectionate friends and, most importantly, being an affectionate, virtuous person, worthy of trust?" (thank you Wikipedia.) Are you sure you joined the right forum?

Interesting system, we don't have Philips as a manufacturer of "proper" kit here any more, and I must confess to not knowing your other kit.

What sort of music do you like?

I'll pop over to your turntable thread now - enjoy the forum and good luck in your quest for turntables & tranquility! ;)

Hi Konstantinos & welcome to AoS :)

To be honest it's only a question of time before things get kind of hot in the UK in my opinion

I hope you enjoy your stay & find a decent TT & phono pre amp that fits the bill ;)

Bests to you!

@Alex:

Well, I didn't consider Philips to be a decent brand either. However, some of my friends had the DVP-9000's predecessor, the venerable 963, which was actually quite good and very tweakable, especially considering the price. The 9000 is, well, a somewhat updated 963, with an HDMI output, higher build quality, a prettier face and a display that you absolutely can't read from a distance. It's rather OK, but I'm looking to replace it with a dedicated SACD player and restrict its role strictly to movie-playing duties (it also has the advantage that it can easily become region-free - and region-free it became indeed).

As for my tastes in music, my biggest love is prog rock, but I also gladly listen to jazz (including fusion, much to many people's dismay), blues etc.
