Been to Barmouth a few times and really enjoyed it.

Be sure though to have some ready cash with you as the last time I went there wasn't a single cash machine to be found in the town :-(

Hi Santosh,

If it's North Wales I can recommend loads of places, but I don't know much about the South, however there are some members here who live there and I'm sure would help :)

North and South Wales is VERY different, mainly because Cardiff and Swansea in the south are massive cities which bring lots of industry to the area, and so there is a much bigger population in that part of the country.

Outside Wrexham, North Wales is either completely rural, with remote and sleepy little villages nestling in the hills in the land where time forgot, or you have the seaside resorts of Rhyl (which is like Blackpool) or Llandudno, which is more old-fashioned and a bit more upmarket. And then there is Anglesey, which is very remote but stunningly beautiful.

Anyway, let us know if it's north or south and we can help further

Marco.

I proposed to swmbo in Llandudno and had some wonderful childhood holidays there. The family nearby was a bonus and I'd love to return to my spiritual roots in the Clwyd Valley.

Hi Santosh,

Has your wife booked anywhere or are you just looking to go somewhere nice in North Wales?

If it's the latter, do you prefer the countryside or seaside? :)

+1 :)

P.S. How's the Wirral these days? used to be very pleasant in the 60's/70's and the people incredibly friendly compared to dahn sarf...

Hi Marco
We prefer quite countryside. I got the date wrong
WE are actually planning to leave on Sunday 29th morning.
We have not booked any accommodation yet, my wife was telling me most of the places were fully booked. Let me know whether you can recommend any places and accommodation.

Regards

Yes, Llangollen is a lovely little place, and only 20 mins from where I live. It can get a little bit 'touristy', though.

Here is a selection of our favourite haunts in North Wales:

http://www.beaumaris.org.uk/

This is in the Isle of Anglesey, which is beautiful throughout, remote and unspoiled.

http://www.betws-y-coed.co.uk/

Is a lovely little town about 30 miles from Llangollen, and there are lots of nice walks and beautiful scenery round there.

http://www.lake-vyrnwy.com/

One of the most stunning lakes in Britain, and the whole surrounding area is absolutely breathtaking in its unspoiled beauty. If you're feeling flush and fancy a treat then check into the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel (the food and overall ambience there is fantastic):

http://www.lakevyrnwy.com/

http://www.chirk.com/ceiriog.html

The Ceiriog Valley is a fairly hidden and beautiful spot of North Wales, and a great place if you want to get away from it all. There is situated the highest waterfall in the world (yes higher than Niagra Falls, but no where near as wide), and is full of all sorts of quaint little villages, such as Llanarmon DC, where on of our other favourite places to stay, The West Arms is located:

http://www.thewestarms.co.uk/

If you like fresh fish, the trout comes from the stream across from the hotel, so you can't get any fresher than that! And the local rabbit and game is to die for...

And then there is Blaenau Ffestiniog where the famous Welsh slate mines are:

http://www.walesdirectory.co.uk/Towns_in_Wales/Blaenau_Ffestiniog_Town.htm

The whole of this area is beautiful, again with all sorts of loves little villages to see, walks and activities.

Again, if you fancy treating yourself, the place to go is Maes-y-Neuadd in Talsarnau:

http://www.neuadd.com/

TBH, this is one of the most stunning places you'll ever likely eat or stay in!

And lastly (although I could still go on, such is the sheer amount of beautiful places to stay in North Wales) there is the magnificently beautiful Snowdonia:

http://www.snowdonia-wales.net/

If you like hill climbing, and breathtaking mountain scenery, then that's the place to go! :stalks:

In that area, one of our favourite hotels is this unpretentious family run place, which specialises in a homely atmosphere, great food, and fantastic service:

http://www.pyg.co.uk/

Anyway, hopefully that should help!

I was recently staying at www.brynteg.co.uk holiday park in a bloody massive static caravan owned by a freind. It is near Llanberis, and just up the road from Caernarvon (sp?). In the few days we were there we had a great time, a lovely part of the country and plenty to do, especially if you have kids.

I was recently staying at www.brynteg.co.uk holiday park....

Well, well, thought the name of that park was familiar. Was working in '77/78 on the hydro-electric scheme in Llanberis and had a beat up, damp, leaky caravan in a farmers field in a little hamlet called Cwn-y-Glo.

Cost me £6/week and I 'borrowed' a 108kg propane bottle from the site and shoved it under the 'van for heating and cooking ('elf 'n safety, yeah right), I guess you would need to pay a bit more these days.

It sure can rain a bit round there....;)

Right... as its Anglesey I can thoroughly recommend you get yourself to The White Eagle pub at Rhoscolyn on Holy Island.
Fantastic food... they will not book tables, but unless its completely mobbed you won't have to wait long but I've never had a problem. Great views overlooking the surrounding countryside and small bay ( the sea is just 10 min walk down the lane.)

We stayed for a week in July at a cottage nearby. but we also stayed for 3 nights in Feb at a beautiful 1925 cottage about a 20 minute walk from the pub - Log fires, great walks along the coast line. (PM me if you want details of either cottage)
