[Four Eyes]

Hi there,
Just a line to say hello to everyone. I joined a little while ago but not much time to spare to get to this hello section.

Name is Mike and user name Four Eyes as surprise surprise I wear glasses! But unfortunately also diagnosed with glaucoma and as a result have lost way over 50% of my eyesight in both eyes.

Purchased a new TT at the beginning of the year - Inspire Eclipse with an SME V fitted with Shure V15 mxr. Been an awful long time not listening to music so just trying to get back into things - lot of 1960's albums to listen to!!.

Got Sony ES amps and Sony APM speakers all from 80's / 90's

In days gone by used to play Harmonica/ Tenor Sax and electric organ - neighbours used to love me!! Still got them so who knows for the future! The way work is going might need to pick them up again and start busking in the town!!

Since joining AOS been keeping an eye on the mods for the Beresford Caiman as it's on the list of things to get in the future.

Right got to make a move now so look forward to seeing 'the action' in AOS. I won't be posting much but wish success to everyone here.

Hello there Four Eyes.
Welcome from me.
I’m down to 40% field of vision in my left eye from optic nerve damage, also lumped into the glaucoma group.
I also attempt to coax music out of one of those bits of bent brass (the alto variety) mainly jazz/funk.

Sounds very similar to me then - eyes and the bent bit of metal!!
I've got about the same in my left eye - they ended up doing 8 operations on it over an 18 month period before they got the pressure down but the right one I've only got about 6% left as they left the op until it was too late - thankfully the first op on the right worked straight away. I'm back in for a check over in November so have got my fingers crossed.
On the bent bit of metal (and the bit with many holes in) I used to play many of the old King Curtis / Jnr Walker tracks together with a variety of whatever was in the charts - don't think i'd do the chart stuff of these days though!!

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum. A friend of mine when we were lads used to wear glasses, and he always knew when he was in for a wallop when his dad would say in thick Northern-Irish accent "James, take yer glarsses orff" - I'm sure you won't be in for any walloping on Aos(unless you ask nicely), and I'm sure you will feel right at home before too long.

I guess it is only natural that those interested in creating music will also be interested in reproducing it as well as possible, but it still surprises me how many of us play instruments (or in my case torture them.) I think having a basic musical understanding (at least) helps with the enjoyment of music? Does for me, anyway.
