Audiolab 6000a

Bought the 6000cdp and was pleasently suprised....proper bit of hifi at reasonable money .


Took the plunge on the 6000a.


Dac/hpa and 50ws of grunt as a intergrated.

Havent been dissapointed.

works really well with efficient speakers, Reiver acoustic eddingdales mk1 and 2 are tremendous.

Less so with 57s.....driven hard amp had a wee huff.

Sounds good on electric beach frugels...lovely soundsage.

Dac to my ears sounds best on the slow filter.

HPA is very good with my 650/700 senns.

Have ripped my BMU/Cabling out the main rig to let it sing.....very impressed!!!!!

Have tried it as a pre with a EWA M50 and croft 7.

Impedance mismatch with the Croft....

As an integrated its rather impressive.

CD playback system the CDT/6000A pick your wires and speakers....something efficient.

Proper plug and play CD system.

im thinking about both the power amp and the mono blocks.

The 6000a is a cracking digital front end.

That's because electrostatics require serious current to produce high frequencies at high volume.
The impedance gets lower with rising frequency.
There are many amps out there that would struggle with electrostatics at high volume.

I’ve never heard the monoblocks. My understanding is that each is similar to a single stereo amp running in bridged mono mode, utilising two amplifier boards in true balanced operation. I tried my amp in bridged mode compared to stereo mode into a single speaker and preferred normal stereo operation. Damping factor is halved in bridged mode AFAIK. If I needed the high power I’d probably bi-amp with two stereo amps. The stereo amp has tons of power though.
The monoblocks may well sound better using the balanced inputs rather than rca. The stereo amp sounds better on the rca inputs. Another tip for the stereo amp is use the outside sets of speaker terminals as the inner ones use internal links and don’t sound as good.

Fortunately no majik smoke appeared...the amp must have a shutdown feature when over worked.

Strange the 57s were fine with t amps and valves.....some SS amps literally go up in smoke with them.

Great insight...might well have a look at the stereo power amp.

Dont really need mega power ,my speakers are pretty efficient .

The review with tee jay on youtube put me onto the feature you can run the 6000a as an integrated but still run pre out utilising another power amp.

I have had a bit of experimentation with power amps feeding treble or bass.

Interconnects and speaker cables.

Croft 7 on bass and the 6000a on treble sounds very good to my ears.

Not ideal tuning the system with cables but good fun.
