I am selling my Accuphase E-406V integrated reference amplifier.
Fantastic condition, everything works and comes with remote, instruction manual and sales brochure. Recently serviced by Wilkinson's Hifi who cleaned the volume pot, replaced some of the VU meter bulbs and gave it a thorough check over and a suite of tests. Absolutely no measurement issues detected and the service engineer Andy stated that "non linear frequency response/ amplification etc... its bang on up to 40Khz at least." All this is to be expected as the amplifier - formerly Accuphase's flagship reference integrated - has astounding build quality.
Only minor issue is 2 of the VU meter bulbs are a bit dim. Oh dear, how will we cope...?

Basically it is a 170 watt (8 ohms) monster that weighs 51 pounds. Accuphase ALWAYS state way less for their power outputs than you actually get and I have seen a German hifi mag test from back in the day which showed power output into 8 ohms was nearly 200 watts. Massive, clean, low noise and ultra low distortion power is there in spades. I have Revel m105 speakers which have a low-ish sensitivity - a volume setting of just number 2 out of 10 is all that is required for a pleasantly loud sound level. Big speakers and a big room require a volume level of just 5 out of 10 to push your eardrums to painful levels. There's more power than anyone could ever need. This is good as it allows the amplifier to have a vice like grip on the sound. Bass response in particular is stupendous (damping factor 120).
The pre-amplifier and power amplifier sections can be operated independently and who can not resist big VU meters? There are separate high efficiency toroidal transformers for both the power and pre-amplifier sections which is nice. Also jolly nice is the discrete-type current feedback line amplifier, massive alloy heat sinks, 4 pairs of heavy duty speaker terminals (bi-wiring friendly), extensive use of high quality relays, summing active filter tone controls, current feedback topology, eight input positions two of which are balanced, Coke can sized capacitors, superb anodizing, fit/finish, etc., etc.
Also comes with an upgraded mains cable.
To my ears, the sound the amp produces is all about transparency, neutrality and dynamics, i.e. true high fidelity which is what we all want isn't it? If you want noise, distortion and a warm syrupy sound, please walk away. The built in headphone amplifier is also in the reference class and effortlessly drives my 600 ohms headphones.
There are two slots in the back of the amp for another line input and Accuphase's superb MM and MC phono amplifier. Unscrew cover, slide in amplifier or line input and you are good to go. No soldering, connecting wires. Nothing. Push in. click and go.
