My son loves to off-load a lot of his crap on his old dad and I recently got "given" a load of shelving units from his decrepit shed that was falling to bits. He had inherited them from the previous owner of his house and they are in fact pretty decent. The old shelf stickers suggest that these came from some sort of engineering workshop and they are very strong and the shelves slot into hangers on the uprights so you can get whatever height you want for each shelf.
I have 4 equipment tables that I got years ago from the small-ads for around £10 each, 2 Target and 2 Sound Organisation. In addition to using them for the main kit, they had become a dumping ground for lots of other kit that may have been used from time to time.
Long story short, all the "crap" has been neatly housed in the "new" shelves at the rear of the room and the tables only have what is required. In the process it has required disconnection of various bits and pieces and re-routing of cables etc. In the past when I have carried this laborious and PITA task I have been underwhelmed that all my efforts have not resulted in one iota of sound improvement.
This time I have been pleasantly surprised that there is definitely greater clarity. What I have also done in the past is clean all mains leads plugs and fuses with Brasso wadding and polish to a nice shine. Maybe I'll do it again as I can't remember how many years it is since I last did it.
