Hello all,
I thought I would sign up here as I've been avidly reading up on loads of old posts concerning the Technics 1210s...and I'm not even halfway through them.
I've decided to try and get a hold of one (or two)1210s after years of fiddling about with Thorens. I decided I'd had enough of tinkering and want a dependable performer that's only ever going to need the slightest of adjustments.
Current system is a Thorens TD150 mkII on a Mission Isoplat, with a bog standard Rega RB250 and Nagaoko MP110 going into a Pro-ject Phono Box SE and into a Cyrus 3 & PSX, then out of Wharfedale Pacific pi40s (there's an Arcam Cd player in there too, but that's by the by for now).
The setup sounds good at the moment, but when it comes round to adjusting those springs etc, I'm finding I no longer have the time nor inclination. I collect a fair bit of less then minty 45s and a removable headshell would be ideal here as I currently have a cheapy technics copy deck to hand for the rougher stuff. Being able to ditch that would be nice.
I had been considering putting the Rega arm on the technics (especially if I got 2 and would still have the benefit of 1 deck with removable headshell), but reading up on here, I get the impression it would be a waste of time unless it's tarted up a bit.
Really looking forward to trying one out now, mostly thanks to this site. I've used them before, but only for DJ-ing, so I know how nice they are to use, just not how good they can sound.
My budget is limited so I'll be trying to find the best 2nd hand deck I can and initially trying out the Nagaoka in, most likely a sumiko headshell.
Just need to find me a deck now! I'll most likely have a ton of questions when I do.
Anyway, sorry for waffling. Off to hunt for a deck again!
