Hi! I'm Jeff.

I've just joined this forum upon finding it while researching a pair of Celestion DL10 loudspeakers that I am considering purchasing. The knowledge base on this forum is impressive!

My relevant background info is:

*American living in France for 15+ years
*Retired A/V custom installation & systems integration specialist
*Divorced (WAF is no longer a relevant factor!)
*VERY partial to vintage UK and French loudspeakers (especially the sound of AUDAX drivers!)
*Loves the sound of tube AND digital amps (No class D hate here!)
*Former vinyl, CD and Mini-disc lover who has fallen to the 'dark-side' of Spotify
*Looking to build my last (Seriously, LOL!) audio system that will be installed in the bedroom of my small apartment. (Remember... No WAF considerations!)
*Currently listening to an SMSL AD18 integrated amp/DAC combo with a pair of DIY Audax 2-way loudspeakers (Sounds WAY better than it really ought to!)
*30+ years of selling, installing and owning a ridiculously wide range of HiFi gear (Sony transistor radios in the 60s to Acoustat & Conrad Johnson in the 90s)
*Had the exceptional pleasure of having revised ESL 57s and a Dynaco modded Stereo 70 in the living room and a Celestion System 6000 and various Heathkit and other amps in the downstairs den at the same time!
*Finally recovering from a severe case of HiFi 'burnout'! (My cellphone was my audio system for about 3 years!)

Well, I guess that's WAY more than you will ever need (or care!) to know about me.

Thanks in advance for all your guidance and assistance.

Be well!

Welcome Jeffrey.

With your experience you must have an idea about the sort of system that would be right for you? Unlike us poor souls who simply had to drool over pictures of unobtainium kit:D, you had hands on experience and know the good from the bad. I know that you were concerned only with the A/V side of audio, but these days it is far more common to just have one system that is capable of doing both?

Look forward to hearing more from you.

Rob.

Thank you Rob!

While its true that I've been around the HiFi block a time or two the only thing that I can say that I know with any certainty is that after all this time is that I really know so little. There are so many products that I am still discovering (new & vintage!) and with the passage of time and the inevitable changes of circumstances that accompany it I'm finding that the most important thing for me now is to 'unlearn' all of the stuff that I thought I knew. Fortunately, living in a small apartment eliminates quite a bit of the esoteric (and costly!) equipment from my consideration since I just don't have the space to allow it to be used appropriately. I also really haven't been interested in home theater for many years now since the majority of my film and video watching is done primarily via my computer. I guess I'm slowly turning into the archetypical 'grumpy old man' that wants a simple system that is solid, stable and requires a minimum of fussing about on a day to day basis.

Let's see what I cobble together this time! I saw a very nice pair of Audax tweeters for sale on Leboncoin here in France that have caused me to reconsider buying different speakers and simply 'restomodding' my current DIY speakers. (Is it even possible to restomod DIY speakers? LOL!)

Anyway... Thanks again for your kind words!

Welcome to AoS Jeffery.

With your background in audio/visual equipment over the years, I'm sure you will have no problem in coming up with a new system that will suit your listening room and budget. Paris has some very good specialist Hi Fi dealers, who I believe also sell used gear in good condition. Exciting times ahead for you. :)

What are your tastes in music?
