View Full Version : FS. Edingdale Mk1 Speakers
Sadly i really dont use my new system now due to constraints of neighbours etc so I might as well move it on. These speakers are in great condition and sound fabulous with pretty much any amp but I have to say, with my new Pathos they really sound super.
Pictures are not great as i am pretty lame now and cant move much alas.
Speakers £650 firm. Pick-up only alas.

The marks etc are minimal and look much worse than they are. These were hand made by Colin Topps.
these are really a 2 man lift and are 113/44/24cm dimentions.
i might add these are fine near walls or away from them. they are about 96db sensitive too so withh work well with a set ot 6 watt or a big powerful amp too. Gary the last owner used them with various amps including a top of range set amp and I ve found that they sing with anything; anywhere.
From the maker, who said this...
these speakers are very happy being driven by a 200W SS amp as a 6W SET valve amp. Making them very flexible when it comes to amp type and power output. They are rated around 95dB efficient with a nominal 8-ohm load. They are a MLTL type fully braced vented cabinet tuned to around 30Hz.
Despite the number of drivers they are a simple 2-way speaker with a simple easy load to drive second order filter. The tweeter is a 8-ohm Monacor pseudo ribbon. The 4 main drivers are 6.5 inch mid-woofers that are wired 2 in series and 2 in parallel to maintain a nominal 8-ohm load. The advantage of using the 4 main mid-woofers such, not only gives you the cone area of a large 12 inch woofer in a slim cabinet but also reduces the overall distortion of the drivers by a factor of 4 and gives a 6dB gain in efficiency. Hence the quality midrange of the speakers and the clean extended low frequency.

I've heard these at Grant's place many times and they're lovely speakers. They're not only a beautiful piece of furniture, they also sounded excellent with every amp I've heard them with, including a little T amp.
These speakers are an absolute bargain at this price.
Grant is a real gent so deal with confidence :)

cheers brian; yes they are extraordinary things, and if made by a mainstream manufacturer rather than a boutique one would have cost north of 5/6k easily. they are the best speakers ive heard in 50 years

I've really been getting into cans myself, bought a load of valve amps and a few pairs of cans. I will have to have another clear out! Anyway I distract, I've only heard good things about these speakers and they seem to punch well above their weight (like several times over), GLWS

cheers. i use nuraphones mostly myself and are excellent. no need for a headphone amp either. if they dont sell then i will just keep them. they are lovely things, as is the amp. i was going to put money towards a new car but i dont have to replace this one, as i should get an extention ok

Feels like the end of an era I'm sure. I haven't seen you list the amp yet?

I'm sorry that you are in a position of losing a full range system, which those speakers look to be, it must be a blow for you as a keen lover of sound.
I much prefer speakers from headphones.

some chat re the Edingdale mk1 speakers here. This back in 2012 when Toppsy had them at Scalford with Nick Gorham and David Brooks. They were one of the hilights..
I also have a spare driver for both the main driver and the tweeter in a box upstairs which i may give to lucky buyer.
Oh and i also have a set of feet for these that i was recommended to put on instead of the spikes currently. Just couldnt manage to do that myself

ive no idea tbh what the design is tbh. but they are superb sounding and are very well and professionally made by Reiver Acoustics.
there are a few threads here re reiver and edingdales

I think he meant they cover the full frequency range rather than the drivers are driven full range with no crossover.
actually they are full range drivers (except the tweeter obviously) not sure that they are all run full range though.
I've heard these speakers a few times with various systems, they are very good and very inexpensive for what you're getting. The don't trade bass depth for efficiency to the same extent as a lot of high-sensitivity designs do. Bass goes satisfyingly low.
Ideal for anyone looking to partner a low powered valve amp, even a SET.
actually they are full range drivers (except the tweeter obviously) not sure that they are all run full range though.
To clarify the design of the MK1 Edingdale speakers the above quote is not actually correct. However Macca is correct that they were originally conceived and designed as a full range (ie 20kHZ to 30Hz) floor standing speakers that have a efficiency to be driven by low power 300b SET amps. Having said that these speakers are very happy being driven by a 200W SS amp as a 6W SET valve amp. Making them very flexible when it comes to amp type and power output. Grant, sorry to read you are having to sell these due to neighbour issues. My heart goes out to you. For the asking price these are a veritable bargain. The latest version of the Edingdale speakers uses state-of-the-art SB Acoustics Satori mid-woofers coupled with the stae-of-the-art Satori beryllium done tweeters and are around 3K a pair.

Looks like I don't need to get my coat after all [emoji23]
I did mean that the speakers, not the drivers, were full range.

Well, you'd have to prise my Edingdales out of my cold, dead hands. I'm never parting with them, and despite hearing speakers up in the £50k+ region at my local high end Hi-Fi shop, I still come home and enjoy just how musically satisfying and complete my system sounds playing through these speakers. They are perfect.
The impact, control, delicacy, soundstage, balance, neutrality and sheer musicality are utterly outstanding.
Don't hesitate, don't think it over, just buy them! £650 is a ludicrous bargain!

Tempted by these myself. There are a few of us locally that now own MK1 Edingdales, may be worth buying just for the drivers to keep as spares.

Think they've concluded the sale now, I only browse the WAM as a lurker these days, I can't log in to my account and admin just ignore or appear to ignore requests to change the password so I've given up.

Had a few sessions with them now, Grant had changed the settings on the rear switch to what i had heard previously.
They sound superb, real house sound with Colins speakers-very 57 like!
Brian popped in today and had a quick look....his good lady was less than impressed with three sets of speakers ( all Colins) in one listening room.
Delighted to house them.
Was sorely tempted with the Pathos....my son reminded me divorce was a viable option on grounds of unreasonable behaviour!!!

As Grant said they work great with a range of amps, being very efficient.
You dont need a massive room either to enjoy them.

Yes I do. A staggering combo that I've only heard bettered a couple of times; and those were some seriously top notch systems.
Unfortunately I simply don't have the space to enjoy it at my forthcoming house. Sometimes life just gets in the way.
But I can assure you that my hands are very much warm and alive. :D
