Hello
Here for sale are my Acoustic Energy AE2 Reference Series II Speakers complete with their matching AE stands. These replaced the original version which had a studio monitor like black surface finish. Nice, but potentially the source of complaints from one's loved ones...
I've no idea why, but Series II AE2's and matching stands are as rare as hen's teeth. Even Fleabay has had none listed this year. Perhaps their high price put people off back in the day?
The speakers work perfectly. No dings in the tweeters, cracked and disintegrating foam or any weird noises, pops, crackles, bangs, etc. Their visual condition is as per the photo's below which I took today. To my utter shame I have lost the little copper jumper strips for the terminals. Oops!
Sensitivity: 91dB/W/m (2.83V). Nominal impedance: 8 ohms (5.5 ohms minimum at 50Hz and 250Hz)
Amplifier requirements: up to 250W.
Dimensions of the speakers are: D 385mm, H 235mm, W 300mm, Weight: 17kg each.
The matching Acoustic Energy stands which are essential to get the best out of the speakers, weigh 26kg each.
Back in 1990, this combination cost the equivalent of around £5000 in today's money. Building on the success of the remarkable AE1 speakers, AE were very serious about the 'two's' and threw pretty much everything they knew at them (right down to the spirit level on the speaker stands). It's fair to say all that effort paid off and, as Stereophile's Jon Atkinson reported at the time, "this speaker was in some ways the best I have ever auditioned. Forget its physical size—its sound was BIG, with more "jump factor" than any other domestic model I have used." The full review can be read here, https://www.stereophile.com/content/acoustic-energy-ae2-loudspeaker
The speakers can handle massive power with ease yet they are very easy to drive. Definitely deserve their 'classic' status and high end reputation :wow:
Please beware though, you do need serious high end kit to get the best out of these speakers. With every amp and front end upgrade I have made, these speakers have responded magnificently to being fed a higher quality signal. If you are on an upgrade path, then I suppose at least the speakers offer a degree of 'future proofing' right up to front ends and amps in the £10000+ bracket. Not bad.

These are the bottom sides of the speakers - plenty of scratches where they have sat on spikes:

Please note, I have all the spikes for the stand bases and the platforms.
With a total weight including stands of 86kg(!) shipping the speakers is not really an option unless you want to organise something yourself. I live south of Preston in Lancashire and am happy to discuss shipping further. There's always a way of sorting something out.
Price: £1300
Thanks for looking
