Hi all. A mate of mine is hoping to get a wee system together on a small budget. I scored him a really nice Pioneer PL12 and he now needs an amp and speakers to go with it (he's currently slumming it with a bluetooth speaker type thing).
Space and cash are tight. He loves the look of my Teac AH-500i and is after something of a similar footprint. He also needs speakers but less urgently as I can lend him some.
Anyone got anything that might suit? Would need to be able to post to the Scottish Highlands. Budget around £200ish.

Any pointers much appreciated.

Cheers

As a former Teac ah 500i owner I recommend their ah 01 amp.

It's smaller and doesn't run as hot as it's based around a B&O icepower class D module.

It has asynchronous USB connectivity+optical/analog ins and a subwoofer pre out which is a nice bonus.

I use mine connected to a raspberry pi4. Makes for a very capable and compact system.

Also for compact speakers check out Rock Solid. They are early 90s mini monitors made in England with collaboration from Bower and Wilkins. Easy to drive and front ported, ideal for wall mounting.

Bought mine on a whim at a boot sale for beer money, very surprised with the sound. Surpassed by Leema Xens for neutrality but sound for pound they are remarkable and a bit of a hidden gem.

I have a Topping PA3 that i bought for my son's bedroom, but he prefers to use a smart speaker. It's a small class d amp with two RCA inputs. Would be looking for £50 plus postage.

Brainz and Margin Walker - Cheers, those could be a good option! Will put them to him.

I should have said, the space limitations are for the amp - plenty room for speakers, even floorstanders if the budget and/or amp matching will allow.

Would they be interested in an AH-500i? I have one available if so. Must be getting on for 25 years old, but only had light use, and has been in storage for the last 11 or 12 years except for a few hours here and there. It's in really tidy condition except I think there's a small scratch on the side of the front panel and... I've misplaced the remote control . I've got the instructions, but no original packaging. Let me know if you're interested and I can send some photos.
