Harbeth 30.1 speakers + HiFi Racks stands

A pair of Harbeth 30.1 speakers and dedicated HiFi Racks stands. The speakers are in cherry and in superb condition: no fading or discolouration. Always used with grilles in place (as Harbeth recommend) and kept out of direct sunlight. They have been very carefully looked after, in a child-free, pet-free, no-smoking household in a room used only for music and reading. They are around 5 years old, not heavily used or driven, and are really in A1 condition. I’ve listened to the new (and very expensive - £4,365!) 30.2 XD version which look identical apart from the badging, and to be honest there’s so little to choose between them to my ears – some say they still prefer the 30.1 as is the same case with the P3ESR. (Quite a bit on the WAM and PFM regarding this.)

All original boxes and packing, certificate/instructions, etc. They are wonderful speakers and I’m very sorry to see them go. They can suit medium to large rooms as well as small (I used them in a room 6m x 4m x 4m and it filled them with ease). They are excellent at low volume, but can also rock to a considerable degree – and work with a wide variety of amplifiers: I’ve used valve, hybrid and solid-state all successfully. The reviews below elaborate on all this and more.

I’ve used them with HiFi Racks dedicated stands which now cost £634.94. (https://www.hifiracks.co.uk/collections/speaker-stands/products/harbeth-speaker-stands#) and with Atacama gel pads (https://www.analogueseduction.net/isolation/atacama-speaker-stand-gel-pads.html) which I found enhanced the sound, but they can be removed easily if not required.

I am asking £1,850 for the speakers, and £320 for the stands – or if purchased together £2,100.

I would much prefer collection or meet rather than using couriers – these are far too nice to risk any transit damage. Happy to demonstrate observing COVID protocols – am double-vaccinated as is my wife.

Sensitivity is 85dB you should be able to work out your power requirements from that. High impedance in the bass so won't need a lot of current, most amps should work fine with them.

I’ve used quite a wide range of amplifiers with the 30.1’s - valve, hybrid and solid state - all worked fine as they are rated at 6 ohm and easy to drive - as per the Harbeth website. The lowest powered I used was a Sugden rated at 28 watts I think, though Class A, and that was excellent - Sugden/Harbeth combination is generally recognised as being one of the best. I’ve used three different Croft hybrids - the line integrated, rated at around 40 watts, the 7R power stereo rated at about the same or a bit higher, then the 7R monos which I think were also around 50 watts - all also excellent, again a wonderful combination. Then I’ve used an Octave 40se - a valve amp rated at 40 watts which was also excellent, and a Norma revo 140 solid state integrated (140 watts) which is also wonderful. I have used an old Linn Classik which was if I remember around 40 watts - sounded good too. So basically they work with any amplifier above 20-30 watts I would say, though some people claim great success using valve amps with lower power around 10-15 watts. But they are also quite comfortable with more powerful amps of 100 watts plus. Certainly I’ve found all the Harbeths I’ve used easy enough to drive, including the P3esr which is generally recognised as probably the hardest Harbeth in terms of power requirements - the Crofts and others also drove them fine. Overall they are very flexible and I would say I noticed only small differences if any between the various amplifiers - all had their virtues and the Harbeths always retained their beautiful overall sound - as the reviews above describe.
