I was wondering if anyone else tests their hearing on a regular basis.
When I worked in avionics the company that employed me paid for and arranged regular hearing tests and I've sort of continued having an annual test.
If anyone does/has had their hearing tested has their receptiveness to high frequency sound deteriorated over time; coz I know there are lotsa old bastards here ;)

The other thing I wondered about is whether or not people here measure their listening environment noise floor.
This has become particularly relevant to me having moved from a rural, to town setting recently.
I used to get a -23Db noise floor late evenings in the rural setting; I struggle to get below -40Db at the same time where I live now and it pisses me orf no end :steam:

I had my hearing tested just the other day and the specialist told me I had lost 25% of my high frequency receptiveness with age (nearly 65) I also suffer from Tinnitus. He told me that they start to worry when the HF deterioration is 45%.

Nevertheless this obviously affects my music listening though not worryingly so, but I have often wondered whether Shahinian speakers would make the auditory experience different as there is no sweet spot - I certainly couldn't live without my balance control, though I don't alawys need it, it depends on the record.

Isn't -40dB lower than -23dB?

You are absolutely correct Steve Toy
In fact that whole bit is complete nonsense given I haven’t even got decibels correctly noted and dont seem to be able to spell "off"
My excuse is it was late and copy and paste with the intention of filling in the numbers afterwards with the appropriate smiley failed miserably.
It should have read:
I used to get a 28-23 dB noise floor late evenings in the rural settings :) and now I struggle to get below 45-40 dB at the same time of day where I live now :( ;it pisses me off no end :steam:

-40 would be very quiet
