Aye, that'll be it:D
Correct me if I'm wrong though, dunno why, but I get the impression Ursula's a bit of a princess, like Del. So if you were able to handle that to her satisfaction, that's probably why she 'okayed the deal', as she thought you'd be up for the job!;)
Marco.
She’s definitely not a princess!
She is rather high-maintenance though…
Haha - I knew I'd got it half right! Join the club, as I've got one of those, too...
So let's compare notes on high-maintenance girlies. Tell me her worst traits in that respect!:D
Marco.
I'll never forget being at the apprentice hostel and a beautiful girl visiting my shared room saying to me;
"You a policeman are you, would you like me to polish your truncheon?"
I was so naive that I had no idea what she was implying, what a missed opportunity.
Or polish your helmet:eyebrows:
Marco.
I think there was mention of both helmets and truncheons, long time ago.
The real problem I have with Dyson is that his whole culture is based on attendance at the Royal College of Art, where form is given priority over function. I have a friend who attended there and later became a senior lecturer there also. Dyson repeatedly espouses the virtues of studying science.

Haha - that reminds me of time when a colleague and I were spending a week off-site performing some environmental tests. My colleague left early to go back to the hotel to get ready to go out to see a show in London, whilst I finished the tests. The next day he told me that a prostitute was 'cruising' the hotel, knocked on the door and asked if she could do anything for him ( ;) ) - to which he replied: "No thank you. I'm about to take a shower and I can do that myself".
He should've asked for a 'golden shower':eyebrows:;)

I'm not sure revealing my better half's foibles on a public forum is really the done thing, you know!
However I will say that she definitely knows her own mind ("Stubborn"? Who said stubborn?) and when a decision has been reached, it is expected to be implemented NOW!

Mate, that's all part of having 'princess syndrome', so she defo has that in her, which I suspect I'd be able to identify more if I spent time in her company. I actually suspect that her and Del would get on rather well!;)

They’d probably egg each other on - now that’s a scary thought!
Lol, if she's anything like Del, in that respect, it certainly would be scary!:D

She’s a bit of a mix, really. She actually prefers men’s company to that of other women in general. She says many women can be bitchy and gossipy and she’s got no time for that.
However she does have more handbags than I have turntables and more shoes than a Imelda Marcos!
Lol... Del's not so much of a handbag girlie (although she has a few), but defo a shoe/footwear one, so they have that in common, especially if Ursula is a bit of a minx - that certainly applies to the princess!:D
I know what you mean about the bitchy side of women, and that's defo true, so Del generally prefers to work with men (although her older boss is a bit of a perv, but that's another story), and socialise with women. However, she has a few male friends too, generally guys I know or work colleagues. Ultimately though she likes a good girly night out, or going out somewhere nice with me!:)
Marco.
shoes and handbags are common denominator with many women.. The wife was same.. dozens of each.. hell dozens upon dozens upon dozens. still loads in house somewhere i think.

My mother in law was the same. Loads of fancy shoes & bags, that all got slung out when she died.

mine outgrew her room and storage and snatched most of mine.. i got a couple of drawers and a quarter of a rail:D
mind you im worse than a woman now with all the clothes ive got, since i have places to put them
Lol... I don't have so many clothes now, as I generally live in jeans and t-shirts (shirts occasionally to look smarter), and then when it's much colder, jumpers replace the t-shirts. Different when I was working and wearing suits everyday.
The funny thing with Del is that she has a room full of shoes (loves them), but they spend more time off her feet, than on them!:D

Our house in Africa has a separate dressing room off the master bedroom, along with an en-suite 'wet room'; whereas here she uses a spare bedroom with a wardrobe, as well as two wardrobes in our bedroom. Plus there is her place in London ....
I have no idea of the pairs of shoes she has, or of the dresses. Sometimes she will wear something, which I haven't seen before, only for her to tell me that I bought it for her!

No, she's honest in that respect. Today she wore something new which she had bought herself.

Buying women's clothes with your credit card? Is that part of your 'staying off the grid as far as possible'? :D The powers that be now know your bra size, and what you're likely doing on the weekend... My card buys manly things like records and power tools, and before you start, an Epilady is not a power tool :ner:
There seems to be a correlation between financial decadence and having a woman.

And long may it continue - without people like your good self, people like me would be out of a job :) But I'm similar in other ways, for instance when it comes time to change cartridge/arm/set it up I'll be paying someone to do it properly rather than risk ballsing it up  Important to know what you can and can't do.
On the subject of your credit card spending though - do you get targeted very much by companies as a result of buying women's clothes? On your Sky planner, does your "suggested viewing picks" include programmes like Ru Paul's Drag Race or Say Yes to the Dress? :eyebrows:
A Mans Gotta Know His Limitations....Clint Eastwood(as Dirty Harry)
Indeed, as they say, a man must know his limitations!:D So when you need that arm or cartridge changed, let me know..
The women's clothes thing you mention is funny, as I've never even considered that, lol... Indeed it hasn't happened, I'm guessing probably for a couple of reasons:
1) Del almost never buys clothes, underwear or shoes from mainstream/high street shops (rarely online), and almost always, physically, from small privately owned designer boutiques, which I suspect have limited marketing 'savvy', in the way you mention, and certainly little online presence.
2) My credit card spending habits therefore aren't often linked, in the way you mention, to third party marketing sources, keen to exploit my so-called penchant for ladies clothing [I have a secret card for that, dahling. which I hide in my 'special drawer', and which facilities the purchases of my wigs and frocks:bum:;)]
Seriously though, no I don't get hounded at all by any companies, trying to sell me stuff, based on my spending habits. Perhaps that's something to do with the fact that I don't use a smartphone, and so short of them sending me emails, which I don't get anyway, or shit through the post (ditto), I'm not really reachable to them.
In terms of a Sky planner, firstly I'm with Virgin lol, but I never use such 'aids', as I find them too restrictive and controlling. One of my pet hates with tech is its 'predictive' nature, which simply shows how much your habits are tracked, and which is something I don't seek to encourage or enable.
Marco.
Grant beat me to it, with the limitations thing!:D
Marco.
Since having my watch serviced, I regularly get sent e-mails from the jeweller/agent who expedited matters. The e-mail just get deleted.
Apropos spending with credit cards, I let my partner use the debit/cash card for one of my accounts. Each month a fixed amount of money is transferred into this account from another, so there is a 'safety limit' to her spending.
Haha - good plan, Barry!:D
I don't need to do that with Del, as she's working and has her own money, *but* that doesn't stop her from expecting to be treated when I take her shopping!;)
As I said, I receive little to no further contact from any shops or companies where my card's been used to buy stuff for Del, as lockdown aside when only essential shops were open, the purchases were all made in person in an actual shop, not online, so there was no reason to give the shop in question any of my contact details.
In that respect, when prompted, we always refuse to join mailing lists, etc, so short of the credit card company themselves passing on my details to third parties, for marketing purposes, which occasionally but rarely has happened (although I'm not sure how that works now with data protection), there's no way for them to find me, even less so when if I'm unable to accompany Del to the shops, I give her some cash to spend instead.
Stay as anonymous as possible, in my view, is the best plan these days, unless you actively want to be contacted in that way. How did the jeweller get your contact details - you must've given them to him?:)
Marco.
No doubt I gave it to them, so they could let me know when the watch was ready for collection.
I check my e-mail every day and delete most of it.
Wouldn't it just a been a phone number, though - why was an email address necessary? That was obviously how he was able to tout for future business.
When I needed the battery in my watch replaced recently, I went to the usual jeweller in town (family business that's been there for years), dropped it off, and he simply said to pop back on Wednesday (having left it with him on Monday) and it would be ready, which it was. Ditto when getting some keys cut recently. And on both occasions I paid cash.
No need whatsoever for any personal details to be exchanged, and unless otherwise unavoidable, that's how I do things:)
Marco.
The watch had to be serviced at the manufacturer's service facility in (I think) Kent. It took about three weeks.
For things like having batteries changed in quartz watches (my Bulova uses one), or having keys cut, they do it whilst I wait. For shoe repairs I will leave it with them and call back later.
I'm even more reticent in giving out my mobile number. Unsolicited texts are even more of a nuisance to me. The only time I give it out is if work is being done on the car (such as a service, or a change of tyres).
Personal strategy; no mobile phone, (put of by the 'culture' years ago, but I can see benefits. Solar watch, great solution, but previous Seikos had to be returned to them if 'proper' waterproof seal required, three weeks and a lot of dough. One expensive one got water in it from being in my washbag whilst I was camping, the splash from a toothbrush got in through the crown.
Friends get nothing but unrequired or solicited texts all day, many of which cut off on answer. People are mesmerised by their phones, apparently 2 hours a day on average, and they walk into me as they are texting and ignoring their responsibilities.

Tell me about it - they're simply slaves to continual bleeps.. Many of my friends are the same, and have simply chalked it up/resigned themselves to it being 'how life is now'. It would be risible if it weren't so sad!

That's all cool, but why did you have to give the person responsible for repairing your watch your email address - surely your phone number would've sufficed?
I suspect you're like me and hardly ever use your mobile phone, and indeed isn't even a smartphone, so better for them to have your phone number, which they couldn't use to do much (if like me your mobile spends most of its time switched off), than your email address, which they could use to send you all sorts:)

I get texts from a Dominoes Pizza in Hertfordshire telling me about their special offers.
No idea why, I don't like Dominoes pizza and I've never been to Herts in my life. I blocked them once but they must have changed their number and they started again.
That and the local curry house are the only ones I get, and I do use the curry house so not really bothered about that.
All a bit of a first world problem I think.

...and you'd get much more of that if you used your phone in the same way, or as much, as the masses.
Quite simply, the more you use your phone to buy stuff, clothes, food or whatever, and in the process share your number with those companies, the more you're leaving yourself open to being targeted like that not only by them, but whoever they may pass your number onto.

Like a lot of things there is a risk vs reward factor at work here. The risk being giving up your personal details to a company to do what they will with it, the reward being promotions/offers/access to 'perks' given out by many companies.
I myself have been bombarded with texts/emails/phone calls in the past because if you want to make full use of certain retailers' offers and rewards you do have to give up some information for them to use. I've certainly saved significant amounts of money on some items which I would not have been able to do without the promotions. No one really haggles or even speaks to sellers or retailers one on one any more to try and obtain a better price. It would be a flat out 'No' or 'I'll have to speak to my manager' also resulting in a flat out 'No'.
Only places not subject to these kind of practices (and where you can still get a good price and good service via 'interaction') are small family run business' and old style high street shops, unfortunately these are just not really a viable option for the masses for whatever reason. For the majority of people 'convenience' rules and that pushes away the emphasis on quality goods and customer service. A shame but the hard truth.
There are settings on phone's/browsers which can filter out these relentless nuisances creeping into your life. Not many people know how to use them or that they are even there, but they are available.
Any call from an unknown number can be ignored and promotional texts/emails can be instantly moved to junk folders or deleted without the user knowing they even arrived.
Still get the odd one creep through but it really doesn't bother me that much, maybe it would the older generation for whom it may be viewed as an invasion of liberty (which it is to an extent) but as people have pointed out, you don't have to get involved.
That's all cool, but why did you have to give the person responsible for repairing your watch your email address - surely your phone number would've sufficed?

Because I won't answer my phone (mobile or otherwise) if I don't recognise the number calling.

What's the worst that could happen? If it's some asshole trying to sell you something, just tell them to fuck off, or ignore it. Simples:)
Saying that, the only time my phone's ever switched on [not been on now for months] is if I'm out in the car travelling a long distance, in case Del needs to contact me, or to call the RAC if I break down - or if Del or I are out and about and separated somewhere, and need to keep in contact with each other.

Having said that, I remember my brother's landline phone having a facility that would accept texts, and a robotic voice read it out to him. I'm sure I wasn't dreaming it :)

I dont know where most come from tbh.. Radge is another... Ken comes from German i think.. as in 'to be familiar with'
trying to think of Liverpool ones but can only come up with 'dickhead', 'divvy' and 'soft lad.'
'Divvy' possibly considered 'racist' now as I think it refers to what is more quaintly known as an 'Irish tinker.'
'Soft lad' also politically incorrect now.
Note - the 'ck' in dickhead should be pronounced as gutturally as possible, really try to bring up some catarrh.

Lol - just being a scouser means you're daft enough. You don't need any special words!:D:eyebrows:
;)

"Fud" is usually a colloquialism for 'cunt' (i.e. vagina/vulva), so might be use as a term of endearment amongst some. But it is also a colloquialism for 'idiot'.

Last week I downloaded Irvine Welsh's "Marabou Stork Nightmares" to my Kindle, so will be next read. Although I did read it about 25 years ago. Might re-learn some dialect there, Mr Welsh writes that way. Mostly around Leith iirc, so more Grant's end of the country I assume.

Back on thread, my system, not 'good enough' with all music, but utterly blissful with some.
